Tony Casillas Inducted into College Hall of Fame

Tony Casillas in Hall of Fame Tonight

December 07, 2004 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- Tony Casillas, a nose guard from Tulsa, Okla., for the Sooners from 1982-85, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame tonight in New York City at the 47th annual awards dinner.

Casillas was a two-time consensus All-American and won the Lombardi Trophy in 1985. Head Coach Barry Switzer called him perhaps the greatest defensive lineman ever at Oklahoma.

Generally regarded a homecoming for the football fraternity, the coat and tie affair is graced with former and current coaches, Hall of Famers from yesteryear and generous supporters of the Foundation and its mission.

At the dinner, 14 football legends will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and another National Scholar-Athlete class will be recognized. William V. Campbell will be presented with the Gold Medal, the Foundation's highest honor, and Robert F. Casciola will receive the Distinguished American Award.
