NORMAN, Okla. -- Just as the Big 12 women's basketball coaches predicted Texas to win the 2004-05 Big 12 regular season title, so did the media from around the league. The media preseason poll is identical to the coaches with the exception of Iowa State and Colorado tying for sixth place, instead of ranking sixth (ISU) and seventh (CU) as in the coaches' poll. Baylor was picked to finish second, followed by Kansas State, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Nebraska shows up at No. 9, while Texas A&M finished 10th, Kansas was 11th and Oklahoma State 12th.
Individual honors and the preseason All-Big 12 team also match the Coaches selections. OU's Stephanie McGhee was named the media preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year, while Kansas State's Kendra Wecker was chosen the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year. Texas' Daria Mieloszynska was voted the preseason Newcomer of the Year.
Sooner teammate Dionnah Jackson was one of seven Big 12 players who earned votes for the preseason Media All-Big 12 team. The five-person All-Big 12 Preseason team consist of Texas' Tiffany Jackson, Jamie Carey and Heather Schreiber, Baylor's Sophia Young and Wecker.
