Oklahoma sold all of its allotment of 4,000 student tickets for the OU-Texas game in an online sale on Monday morning. The OU Athletics ticket office opened the sale of student tickets for the game on its web site at SoonerSports.com at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning and all tickets were sold by 9:46 a.m.
"The online sales are designed to eliminate the need to camp out for 10 to 12 hours to get tickets," said Assistant A.D. for Ticket Operations Tom Blubaugh.
Many students do not have the opportunity to camp out for tickets.
"The ticket department met with student leaders and took OU-Tulsa and the OU Medical Center campuses into consideration, not just the Norman campus," said Associate A.D. for Marketing and Promotions Rick Hart. "We are trying to make this fair for a diverse amount of people."
The Sooners play Texas every season at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The stadium holds 70,000 fans and the two schools split the tickets down the 50-yard line. One side is Crimson while the other is Burnt Orange. With both teams ranked and the historic rivalry between the two schools, the demand for tickets is obviously very high.
The ticket office's five dedicated servers successfully handled the demand of the online sale on Monday morning. The browser requirements were posted and free downloads for browser upgrades were provided for students in advance.
Oklahoma travels to Iowa State on October 4 before the showdown in Dallas with the Longhorns on October 11.
