Soccer Battles TCU To 1-1 Tie In Double Overtime

Norman, Okla. - After getting rained out on Friday, OU battled TCU to a one all tie after 110 minutes of action on Saturday, Sept. 13, in Fort Worth, Texas. Becky Nelson scored her third goal of the season in the 65th minute to knot the game at one to allow the Sooners to escape the game with their first tie of the season.

After the Sooners forced overtime, neither team was able to muster a game winning goal in two overtime sessions. Catherine Wade played a solid game with six saves in the longest game of the season so far for OU.

TCU got on the board first and did so in the early part of the first half, scoring a goal at the 2:01 mark. Amy Van Zandt scored her second goal of the season for the Horned Frogs getting the assist from Jessi Moore to put TCU on top. Despite getting outshot 7-2 in the first 45 minutes of action, the Sooners kept things close playing determined defense.

TCU piled up the shots again in the second half, with a 5-2 edge. Jennifer Sims got the starting nod in goal for TCU and saved one OU shot in the game and eventually gave up the game tying goal from Kenkel. Overall in the game, the Sooners were outshot 17-5 and had three corner kicks to the Horned Frogs' four.

Freshman Michelle Enos put together another impressive game for OU, leading the team with two shots taken. Lauren MacIver, Christy Kenkel and Nelson tallied the remaining shots.

Oklahoma's record now stands at 2-2-1 while TCU holds that same mark. The Sooners will have not have much rest after a long contest with TCU, as they will have to travel to Dallas to play SMU tomorrow at 1 p.m. SMU also played on Saturday after weather postponed their match on Friday. The Mustangs defeated Baylor (2-1) to improve to 5-1 on the year.
