The Oklahoma volleyball team fell in three games (30-22, 30-24, 30-19) to Colorado on Wednesday night at the Coors Event Center. Colorado, who is a perfect 6-0 at home this season, capitalized on a rare off night from OU freshman Joanna Schmitt.
Senior Kelly McCarter and freshman Rachel Jackson shared setting duties and recorded 13 and 16 assists, respectively. McCarter recorded a team-high four block assists, while Jackson notched one solo block.
Seniors Christina Maynes and Yvette Villanueva tied Schmitt for the team lead with six digs apiece, while Maynes also collected four kills.
Colorado held a steep advantage in kills (60-33), hitting percentage (.336-.179) and digs (38-22). OU, which was playing its first match without both of its starting middle blockers (Laura Tomes, Jennifer Adams), outblocked Colorado 10-2. OU collected a season-high four block solos.
Colorado was led by Maragda Santillana, who tallied 16 kills, while middle blocker Monique Gerlach also reached double-digits with 13 kills.
Oklahoma falls to 9-11 on the season and 1-7 in Big 12 play, while Colorado improves to 13-5 on the year and 5-3 in conference.
Oklahoma returns to action with a rare Friday conference match against Texas A&M. First serve is set for 6 p.m., at the Howard McCasland Field House. The OU Homecoming Pep Rally is slated to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the match. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children and free for OU students with a valid university I.D.
