NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team lost its first Big 12 Conference match to No. 22 Kansas State (5-2, 1-0) tonight at Bramlage Coliseum by scores of 30-13, 30-16 and 30-23. The Sooners (1-8, 0-1) now prepare for matches with SMU and Kansas over the next three days.
The Wildcats dominated the first two games, giving up only 29 points out of a possible 60 in games one and two. In the third game OU attempted to rally back with 23 points and a .237 hitting percentage. Sophomore Logan Pierce led Oklahoma with nine kills while junior Denise Griffin was tops in digs with 11.
K-State was led by senior Liz Wegner, who tallied 17 kills, hitting .417. Junior Jenny Pollard had a team-high nine digs and sophomore setter Laura Downey dished out 41 assists.
Oklahoma's home opener is tomorrow night, Sept. 20, against SMU at 7 p.m. inside the OU Field House. The Mustangs are 3-4 prior to a match with Oral Roberts tonight in Tulsa. OU then plays host to Kansas (8-0) on Saturday, Sept. 22, for its Big 12 Conference home opener.
