Huntsville, Texas - The Oklahoma volleyball team (0-1) opened its season with a 19-30, 30-28, 24-30 and 25-30 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette (1-0) at the Sam Houston State Tournament in Huntsville, Texas, Friday morning. This year's scoring format has changed to four rally scoring games to 30 points and a fifth game, if necessary, to 15 points.
Sophomore outside hitter Christina Barlow led the Sooners with 11 kills and 15 digs. Junior setter Jessica Barney dished out 34 assists and chipped in eight kills while freshman middle blocker Candice Woods recorded six kills. Woods, who just finished playing with the Canadian National Junior team, joined her OU teammates last week.
Other major contributors to the Oklahoma effort were junior outside hitter Lindsay Hoyt with nine kills and sophomore outside hitter Logan Pierce with 10 kills.
The Sooners played Louisiana-Lafayette last season at the Lamar Cardinal Classic, defeating the Rajin' Cajuns in three games.
The Sooners will play their second match of the day at 5:30 p.m. against North Texas.
Oklahoma will face Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Sam Houston State tomorrow, Saturday, at 3 and 8 p.m., respectively.
