NORMAN, Okla. - In its third match of the week, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-23, 1-12 Big 12) lost to Wichita State (8-14, 3-10 Missouri Valley) in four games via scores of 15-30, 16-30, 30-26 and 23-30.
Junior Jessica Barney recorded her sixth double-double of the season, dishing out 33 assists and hustling for a team-best 16 digs. Junior Lindsay Hoyt and sophomore Logan Pierce helped the defensive efforts with 11 digs each. Pierce led the team with 12 kills to post her seventh double-double of the year. Freshman Gretchen French tied a career-best five blocks to lead the Sooners, while Hoyt and freshman Candice Woods registered four blocks each.
The Sooners struggled offensively, being outhit by the Shockers .218 to .022. WSU's Sara Younes hit a match-best .459 while leading the team with 20 kills. Kiley Randolph and Ashley Holt followed with 15 and 13 kills, respectively.
The Shockers racked up 15 service aces in four games with Carrie Gerth leading the way with seven. WSU outblocked the Sooners 13 to 9 with Randolph posting a match-best six blocks.
The Sooners are next in action on Sunday, Nov. 3, against tournament host SMS at 2:30 p.m. Oklahoma returns home for a match against Baylor on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Howard McCasland Field House.
