Smith A Semi-finalist For Mackey Award

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's Trent Smith, who set a school record with 61 catches during the 2001 regular season, is one of six semi-finalists for the Mackey Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top tight end.

The other five semi-finalists are Colorado's Daniel Graham, Oregon's Justin Peele, Miami's Jeremy Shockey, Purdue's Tim Stratton and Nebraska's Tracey Wistrom.

The three finalists will be announced Dec. 5, 2001. The Nassau County Sports Commission, which sponsors the award, will host a reception to announce the winner Dec. 12, 2001 at Champions located inside the Long Island Marriott.

Other Sooners being considered for post-season honors include linebacker Rocky Calmus, a finalist for the Butkus, Lombardi and Nagurski Awards; Roy Williams, a finalist for the Thorpe and Nagurski Awards and Jeff Ferguson, a semi-finalist for the Ray Guy Award.
