NORMAN, Okla. - In its second match of the week, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-28, 1-16 Big 12) was defeated by defending national champions and second-ranked Nebraska (23-, 16-0 Big 12) in three games. The Huskers remain undefeated in conference play with games scores of 30-17, 30-21 and 30-15.
"We played pretty well in the first half of each game and had some good defensive plays, but we couldn't take care of Nebraska's scoring runs," said Oklahoma Head Volleyball Coach Kalani Mahi. "We don't have the flexibility that Nebraska has as far as substitutions. We're challenged as far as our depth goes because we have only 10 players on our squad."
Junior Jessica Barney stepped up for the Sooners tonight, recording her seventh double-double of the season, hustling for a team-best 16 digs, dishing out 23 assists, while adding a season-high five service aces. Sophomore Logan Pierce posted a team-high eight kills, while freshman Emily Kincaid had two service aces.
Nancy Metcalf led the Husker offense, recording 12 kills and hitting .500. Laura Pilakowski hustled for a team-best 10 digs, while Greichaly Cepero posted a match-best five blocks. NU out hit Oklahoma .350 to .047, with Amber Holmquist leading the way with a .545 hitting clip (6K, 0E, 11TA).
Oklahoma is next in action on the road against No. 25 Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. The match will be held at the Coors Events Conference Center in Boulder.
