NORMAN, Okla. - In its second of three matches this week against top 25 teams, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-27, 1-15 Big 12) welcomes defending national champions and second-ranked Nebraska (22-1, 15-0 Big 12) to the Howard McCasland Field House on Wednesday, Nov. 14, for a 7 p.m match.
Nebraska leads the all-time series with OU, 54-6, dating back to 1975. Oklahoma last defeated the nationally ranked Huskers, 3-0, on Oct. 10, 1997, in Norman.
Sophomore Logan Pierce leads the Sooners into the match, averaging a team-best 3.17 kills per game and 2.43 digs per game. Freshmen Candice Woods and Gretchen French lead the defense with 0.81 and 0.75 blocks per game, respectively. Freshman Emily Kincaid and junior Jessica Barney pace the Sooners at the service line, averaging 0.40 and 0.38 service aces per game, respectively.
Nebraska, coming off a 3-0 win over Kansas, is being led by Nancy Metcalf, who averages a league-best 4.55 kills per game and 3.16 digs per game. Amber Holmquist is hitting a team and Big 12-high .408, while Jenny Kropp leads the Huskers with 1.82 blocks per game, which also ranks first in the conference.
The Sooners are next in action at No. 25 Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Boulder, Colo. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Coors Events Conference Center.
