NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-16, 1-7 Big 12) lost to Iowa State (4-11, 1-9 Big 12) in four games tonight in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones edged the Sooners 30-27 and 32-30 in the first two games. The Sooners bounced back to win the third game 30-22 only to lose game four 30-25.
Oklahoma sophomore Logan Pierce landed a career and team-high 19 kills and 17 digs for her fifth double- double of the season. Freshman Candice Woods hit a team-best .250 with 11 kills and three errors on 32 attempts. Junior Denise Griffin matched Woods with 11 kills and picked up 11 digs for her second double-double.
Defensively, three Sooners posted career-best performances. Freshman Alexia McWhinney hustled for 20 digs while junior Jessica Barney posted 19 and junior Lindsay Hoyt registered 18. Barney also dished out 45 assists to post a double-double, her third of the season.
The Sooners tallied 222 total attempts and 97 digs compared to the Cyclones' 206 total attempts and 113 digs. ISU had four players in double digits in kills and six in digs. Brittany Dalager picked up a match-high 32 digs while adding a team-best 16 kills. The Cyclones out-blocked the Sooners 15-6, with Julie Mitchell leading the way with 11 blocks (three solo, eight assist).
Oklahoma has one day of rest before playing host to Kansas State on Friday, Oct. 19. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Howard McCasland Field House. "Late Night with Sooner Basketball" will begin at the conclusion of the volleyball match and last until approximately 11:15 p.m.
