NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops has brought a wide-open, high-powered attack to OU's Memorial Stadium and very few football fans have missed out on the opportunity to watch it. Last season, season tickets sales reached 56,000, an increase of 8,000 from the previous season. The near-record number provided OU the foundation to sell out all five home games for the first time since 1987.
"The University of Oklahoma fan base continues to demonstrate how truly special it is," said OU athletic director Joe Castiglione. "The college football tradition at Oklahoma means so much to this state, our alumni and college football fans everywhere. Many of our fans that purchased single-game tickets last year have turned into our best customers for season tickets. There is a realistic chance we could sell every seat in Memorial Stadium as a season ticket, but my guess is that there will be a very limited number of single-game tickets for purchase on an individual-game basis."
As soon as the 2000 schedule was announced, the OU Athletic Ticket office received numerous inquiries regarding individual game tickets. As a result, the attention focused on this season is creating a demand for Sooner Football season tickets rarely seen. Therefore, OU is forced to delay accepting individual game orders for any home game until August 1 to ensure all season ticket orders are filled.
Sooner Club members and season ticket holders will receive first priority for filling single game orders.
During the last week of March, the OU ticket office sent out football season ticket renewals. Recipients of OU season tickets renewals will have the first opportunity to get seats for a Sooner home schedule that features six home games, including a renewal of one of the greatest rivalries in college football Oklahoma-Nebraska.
"We want our fans to know in advance that there is a high demand for tickets, especially for a special game like Nebraska," added Castiglione. "Last year our home games against Texas A&M and Oklahoma State created a situation where there were very few tickets available for non-season ticket holders. I believe that the Nebraska game this season will present us with the same challenge. If there are Sooner Club members or season ticket holders who were planning to host a larger entourage for the Nebraska game, additional season ticket purchases may be the only way to ensure you can accommodate additional family members and friends."
A major concern for both Sooner fans and the OU athletic administration is keeping football games affordable. Already among the least expensive season tickets in the Big 12 Conference, the University of Oklahoma offers several ticket options that allow Sooner football to remain a family activity. However, the best way to insure that fans have a seat for the upcoming season is to purchase the season ticket which allows access to all six home games at the low cost of $145, third lowest among Big 12 schools. Individually, Sooner home games cost $25 (UTEP, Arkansas State and Rice), $35 (Kansas and Texas Tech) and $45 (Nebraska). By purchasing a season ticket, OU fans will save $45, basically the price of one Nebraska single-game ticket.
2000 Big 12 Conference Ticket Prices (* Six Home Games)
1. Nebraska $230.00* 2. Kansas State $224.00 - $228.00 3. Texas $202.00* 4. Colorado $195.00 5. Texas A&M $195.00* 6. Texas Tech $180.00 7. Oklahoma State $175.00* 8. Missouri $166.00* 9. Kansas $157.00* 10. Oklahoma $145.00* 11. Iowa State $132.00* 12. Baylor $120.00
"There are numerous advantages to season tickets, but the total savings might be the largest to our fans," continued Castiglione. "While we have other avenues of income, ticket sales are our largest source of revenue. The revenue generated by ticket sales is used in several areas, but mostly future capital improvements that will allow us to improve the overall game experience for our fans."
Some of the most popular sections of Memorial Stadium on gameday are the Sooner Saver areas located in the North End Zone, the top of the South End Zone, as well as the Northeast Corner. Unfortunately, these areas are already sold out for the 2000 season. However, the Athletic Ticket Office has created a waiting list to purchase tickets in that area. Those interested in purchasing Sooner Saver tickets should contact the OU Athletic Ticket Office to be placed on the waiting list. Fans will be notified if seats become available.

"One of the largest reasons for our success at home last year was the tremendous support of our fans," noted OU head coach Bob Stoops. "We want Memorial Stadium to be an intimidating place for teams to play. Last season was a great first step in that direction and believe me when I say that it makes a difference. We have put together a nice streak of seven consecutive home wins and five straight sellouts. The only way we have the opportunity to extend both of those streaks is with the solid support of our fans."
