NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners were defeated, 15-3, by the Baylor Bears in baseball on Friday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run run rule after seven innings. OU starting pitcher Rocky Cherry (2-4) was charged with the loss for the Sooners, who fell to 15-11 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12. Baylor starter Chad Hawkins (4-4) pitched a complete game to pick up the win for the Bears (19-8, 6-4 Big 12).
Rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru and second baseman Sean Murphy both produced 2-for-4 and one run scored performances to pace the Sooners offensively. Shortstop Zach Lekse added a 1-for-4, one RBI effort and ran his current hitting streak to seven-straight games.
Six Bears had multi-hit performances on the evening, led by rightfielder Jaime Bubela who went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and a RBI. Catcher Kelly Shoppach and Tim Hartshorn both hit home runs for Baylor.
The two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the second game and conclude the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start time.
