NORMAN — Oklahoma freshman pitchers Xander Mercurius and Cord Rager have been invited to the 2026 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp this summer. USA Baseball sent out the 56 premier non-draft-eligible collegiate invites this week.
The pair of Sooner pitchers will head to North Carolina to participate in the camp and exhibition games in late June with the Collegiate National Team roster to be finalized in early July.
The right-handed pitcher, Mercurius, has shown potential out of the bullpen for the Sooners in 2026, striking out 27 in his 28.2 innings pitched to go with just 13 walks. The freshman is tied for fourth out of the bullpen arms with 15 appearances, going two or more innings in six outings, including two appearances of five or more innings. Mercurius has three showings with four or more strikeouts, fanning a career-best seven vs. Alabama on April 2.
Rager, fellow freshman and OU's Sunday starter throughout the season, has 61 K's to 18 walks on the season with a 3-3 record. The lefty left has six-plus strikeouts in six of his 11 starts and a pair of appearances with no walks. The Maypearl, Texas, product has gone five innings in five of his 11 starts and has not thrown less than three innings in a start this season.
The Collegiate National Team, which will be named on July 5 following the conclusion of Training Camp and exhibition games, will compete in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship at Taichung City Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung City, Taiwan, from July 11-15.
Mercurius, Rager and the Sooners host Tennessee in Oklahoma City this weekend at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark for the regular season series finale. Tickets are available via SoonerSports.com/tickets.
