NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners crowned six Champions at the Oklahoma Open, including titles at 125, 141, 149, 157, 197 and heavyweight. A total of 10 Sooner grapplers finished third or better.
Bo Maynes started the Sooners rolling with a championship in the 125-pound weight class. He defeated Skylar Holman, of Oklahoma State, in a 6-3 decision to claim the title. At 141 three-time Big 12 Champion and All-American, Michael Lightner claimed his third tournament title of the year with victory over Ryan Martinez of the Air Force Academy. At 149, Jared Frayer claimed the championship with a fall over Jeremy Spates of Missouri. Mark Worthy brought home the title at 157 by defeating Billy Gabel, of Oklahoma State, in a 13-9 decision. Waymon May defeated Will Gruenwald of Oklahoma State to claim the title at 197. Leonce Crump cruised to a 10-5 victory over Kevin Hoy of Air Force to win the heavyweight division.
Two Sooners also finished second. At 133 pounds, Witt Durden, lost by decision to Oklahoma State's Johnny Thompson. Michael Barger was runner-up at 174 pounds, falling to OSU's Tyrone Lewis. Finished third for the Sooners were Matt Ridings at 125 and heavyweight David Stitt.
The Sooners will be back in action on December 10, when they host Oklahoma State at the Lloyd Noble Center.
