AMES, Iowa - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team captured its first Big 12 victory of the season tonight with a 15-3, 15-12, 15-6 victory over Iowa State in front of 503 fans at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. The Sooners, who snapped a four-match losing streak, improved to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Cyclones fell to 2-6 and 0-2.
Oklahoma was led by junior Cathy Cook. The middle blocker recorded match highs in kills (16) and hitting percentage (.609). Going into tonight's contest against Iowa State, Cook was ranked fourth in the nation in hitting percentage (.433). She also added a team-high seven digs.
Holly McMillan, Danielle Bookout and Melissa Christman each contributed seven kills for the Sooners. McMillan, a junior middle blocker, tied a career high with six block assists. Junior Carolyn Kittell added 35 assists.
The Cyclones struggled offensively in the match, registering a .093 hitting percentage. Sheila Lopez led Iowa State with 12 kills.
OU continues Big 12 when it travels to Columbia, Mo., Wednesday, Sept. 29, to face the Missouri Tigers.
