NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team was defeated by No. 22 Colorado, 8-15, 3-15, 9-15, Wednesday night at the OU Field House in Norman. In both teams Big 12 Conference opener, the Sooners fell to 5-6 overall while Colorado improved to 7-3.
Sophomore Sonja Nielsen and senior setter Kelly Campbell led the Buffs. Nielsen, an outside hitter, recorded 15 kills, eight digs and two service aces. Campbell registered 38 assists, two service aces and five kills to go along with a .444 hitting percentage.
OUs Cathy Cook continued to impress with her offensive attack. The junior middle blocker registered eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Cook, who currently ranks fourth in the nation with a .433 hitting efficiency, also added four digs, three blocks and one service ace. Sophomore Chantae Weathers finished with a team-high 10 kills.
Oklahoma, now on a four-match losing streak, hits the road for its next Big 12 match Saturday at 7 p.m. against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
