NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team was defeated Saturday night by Northwestern, 9-15, 8-15, 11-15, in its final match of the Wildcat Classic at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill. The Sooners finished the tournament with a 1-3 record and fell to 5-5 on the season.
Oklahoma could not muster any type of offense as it recorded a .200 hitting percentage in the loss. The leading hitter for the Sooners was senior Melissa Christman, who posted team-highs of 12 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Sophomore Chantae Weathers added 10 kills, three digs and two blocks, while junior Holly McMillan contributed four kills, two service aces and nine digs.
Northwestern's offense registered a .336 hitting percentage behind Carmen Burbach and Sarah Ballog, who each recorded 15 kills each. Jennifer Zagorski added 10 kills and hustled for 14 digs for the Wildcats.
This was the second loss for the Sooners today. Earlier this afternoon, OU fell to LSU, 15-10, 8-15, 17-19, 12-15.
The Sooners return home and begin Big 12 Conference action at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, against No. 22 Colorado at the OU Field House in Norman, Okla.
