Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team registered its second victory in its own tournament, the Sooner Invitational, with a 3-1 defeat of Wichita State at the OU Field House in Norman. The Sooners fell in game one, 13-15, but fought back to capture the next three games for the victory. OU now stands at 4-1 on the year, while the Shockers remained winless at 0-6.
Four Sooner players recorded double-digit kills, including Danielle Bookout's 13. The sophomore outside hitter is leading OU in kills this season with 79. Junior setter Carolyn Kittell added 47 assists and sophomore Chantae Weathers came off the bench to contribute six blocks. Wichita State was led by Jan Meloy's 12 kills.
The Sooners will continue tournament action at 5 p.m. tonight when they battle Wyoming. The Cowgirls are also 2-0 in the Sooner Invitational after defeating Arkansas-Little Rock, 3-2, earlier today. The winner of tonight's match between OU and Wyoming will be crowned champion of the Sooner Invitational. After the Sooners and Cowgirls battle, the last match of the tournament will begin at 7 p.m. between Wichita State and Arkansas-Little Rock.
