Oklahoma Volleyball Set to Practice

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team reports for its first day of practice on Thursday, Aug. 11. For the following two weeks, the Sooners will begin their morning workouts at 9 a.m. and hold an afternoon session at 2 at the OU Field House.

Head Coach Miles Pabst returns four of six starters and welcomes six newcomers, including sophomore Chantae Weathers, who was a 1997 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection, and junior transfer Cathy Cook, who was named the 1997 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.

OU concluded its 1998 season with a 10-22 overall record but expects to be in the hunt for the 1999 Big 12 Conference title.

Oklahoma will host an alumni scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. at the OU Field House before opening its season against San Francisco on Friday, Sept. 3, at the Cal Poly Tournament in San Luis Obispo, Calif. This year's schedule has the Sooners playing 12 home matches, including the annual Sooner Invitational Sept. 10-11.
