Sooner Volleyball Takes Baylor To The Limit

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Baylor Friday night at the OU Field House in Norman. The Sooners lost their second five-game match of the season by game scores of 15-4, 4-15, 12-15, 15-12, 15-8. Oklahoma dropped to 6-13 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 action, while Baylor improved to 18-5 and 6-4.

Sophomore Chantae Weathers (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Cathy Cook (Irvine, Calif.) led OU with 19 kills each. Weathers' performance (19k-9e-44ta) was a career best for the outside hitter, while Cook's 19 kills matched her season best. Oklahoma had four players with six or more digs, led by junior Allison Silveira's (Elgin, Ill.) nine. Running the offense was junior Carolyn Kittell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) who recorded a team-high 60 assists, pushing her career total to 1,146. She now ranks fourth on the school's all-time career assists list.

Four Bears registered double digits in kills and two posted 10 or more digs. Senior outside hitters Kia Young and Elisha Polk led the match with 25 and 20 kills, respectively. In addition, sophomores Tatiana Kenon and Sunny Nicholas registered 16 and 10 kills. Defensively, Dana Atkinson hustled for a match-high 14 digs while Polk was credited with 13 digs. Freshman setter Kristin Sheppard led all players with 62 assists.

For the game, Oklahoma tallied 73 kills and committed 24 errors on 168 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .292. Baylor netted a .307 clip with 77 kills and 26 errors in 166 total attempts. OU out blocked Baylor, 6-3, but the Bears took the advantage in digs, 61-46. BU also landed 12 service aces to Oklahoma's eight.

Okahoma returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. against 12th-ranked Kansas State (14-3, 8-1 Big 12) at the OU Field House.
