Nick Heflin was announced as an Oklahoma wrestling assistant coach in May 2017 and enters his sixth season in 2021-22 with the Sooners.

The Sooners posted an 8-11 mark in Heflin’s first season and sent five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships. Heflin aided in top-tier recruiting, bringing four top-100 recruits to Norman ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Heflin's second season saw the Sooners send five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships and go 10-6 overall.

Oklahoma collected a 5-7 mark in Heflin’s third season, but qualified six wrestlers for the NCAA Championships. Heflin played a critical role in the development of freshman, Darrien Roberts, who placed seventh at Big 12s and Jake Woodley who finished fifth at Big 12s.

In the 2021 campaign, Heflin guided 197-pounder Jake Woodley to the national semifinal, as the Sooner became the lowest-seeded wrestler to ever appear in the semis en route to becoming the Sooners' 276th All-American. The Sooners claimed the Big 12 Championship, their first since 2002 and sent heavyweight Josh Heindselman to the NCAA Championship alongside Woodley.

Prior to his time at OU, Heflin spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Princeton. Heflin helped lead the Tigers to their seventh top-25 finish in program history in 2016-17 after sending seven student-athletes to the NCAA Championships, including freshman All-American Matthew Kolodzik. In 2015-16 under Heflin's direction, 197-pounder Brett Harner earned the EIWA crown and reach the podium at the national tournament.

A three-time All-American for the Buckeyes and the 2014 NCAA Runner-Up at 197 pounds, Heflin wrestled for Rosselli at Ohio State from 2010-2014. After graduating, he worked as a strength coach with both the Ohio State football and wrestling teams and with the Ohio Regional Training Center before joining the Princeton staff. In May 2017, Heflin placed third at 86kg at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas. He has a degree in human nutrition from Ohio State
