No. 1 Oklahoma Closes Out Regular Season with Tri-Meet Victory

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team capped off the regular season with a 197.925 victory over No. 9 Michigan (197.100) and Eastern Michigan (195.025) Friday night inside Crisler Arena.  

With postseason competition around the corner, the Sooners closed out their regular-season slate with a 16-0-1 record and 11 wins over top 10 teams. Under head coach K.J. Kindler, OU has been undefeated in the regular season nine times, including two of the last three years. 

Addison Fatta and Mackenzie Estep shared the all-around title, each earning a 39.500. Fatta has won the all-around in nine of 11 meets this season, while Estep picked up her first all-around title. Estep also won bars (9.90), bringing her season total to 10 to rank second on the team behind Fatta's 18.  

Hannah Scheible and Elle Mueller shared the vault title with near-perfect 9.975s. Ella Murphy and Faith Torrez each recorded a 9.95 on beam to share the title. Michigan's Carly Bauman won floor with a 9.95.  

The Sooners trailed early after a 49.225 on bars. Michigan was in front after a 49.475 on vault, while Eastern Michigan was third after a 48.800 on beam.  

OU got off to a slow start with just one score of 9.90 in the first rotation. Estep had the team's high score with a 9.90, followed by 9.85s from Torrez and Fatta. Scheible notched a 9.825 in the No. 2 spot and Caitlin Smith added a 9.800 in the No. 5 position. Murphy led off with a 9.775.  

A 49.650 on vault pushed the Sooners into the lead with a 98.875 at the halfway point to Michigan's 98.475 and EMU's 97.725. Four of the five counting scores for the Sooners were 9.90 or higher, with two nearly perfect vaults.  

Scheible's handspring pike half and Mueller's Yurchenko 1.5 earned top marks from the judges as the pair recorded matching 9.975s. Keira Wells posted her seventh score over 9.90 with a 9.925 on a nearly stuck Yurchenko 1.5. Estep recorded her second 9.90 of the day, while Fatta added a 9.875 as the anchor. Elizabeth Blessey notched a 9.850 in the leadoff spot.  

OU extended its lead to almost a full point with a 49.575 on floor for a 148.450 through three rotations. Michigan remained second with a 147.500 and EMU third with a 146.400.  

After a 9.875 from Murphy in the leadoff spot, the Sooners rattled off five straight marks of 9.90 or higher. Fatta notched a 9.90 in the No. 2 spot, followed by another 9.90 from Wells. In the No. 4 spot Estep tallied a 9.925, her eighth mark above 9.90 this season. Mueller added a 9.925 of her own, her seventh score over 9.90 in her last eight floor routines. After not competing against TWU, Kamila Pawlak earned a 9.925 in the anchor spot.  

A 49.575 on beam clinched the win for OU. Fatta and Wells started the final rotation with back-to-back 9.875s. Murphy put up a strong routine in the No. 3 spot for a 9.95, her fourth mark of 9.95 or higher on the event. Estep added a 9.775 in the No. 4 spot, followed by a 9.825 from Mueller. Torrez got back on track after a fall on Sunday with a 9.95 in the anchor spot, her eighth score of 9.95-plus this season.  

The postseason begins Saturday, March 21, at the SEC Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Sooners are a lock for the evening session and will find out their seeding and rotation order on Monday, March 16.
