February 09, 2026 | Women's Basketball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Mikayla Blakes scored 34 points as No. 5 Vanderbilt beat No. 10 Oklahoma 102-86 on Monday night.

After getting outscored in the first half of their last four games, the Commodores (23-2, 9-2 Southeastern) scored 59 points on their way to a 19-point halftime lead.

Oklahoma (17-6, 5-5) took its only lead when Payton Verhulst hit a 3-pointer just eight seconds into the game. Justine Pissott answered with a 3 that sparked a 12-2 run and Vanderbilt never again trailed. The Commodore took their biggest lead at 51-25 when Blakes converted a three-point play with 6:17 left in the second quarter.

Aubrey Galvan had a career high 30 points, 17 in the first half. Her previous high was 20 in Vanderbilt's 72-69 win over No. 7 Michigan on Jan. 19.

Pissott had 16 points and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda had 13 points and nine rebounds for Vanderbilt.

The Sooners committed 21 turnovers, which the Commodores converted into 26 points.

Oklahoma's Raegan Beers recorded her 62nd career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds before she fouled out with 4:26 to play on an offensive foul — her third of the game.

Sahara Williams added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Aaliyah Chavez had 14 points, but went 0 for 11 from 3-point range.

POSTGAME NOTES

• Oklahoma (17-6, 5-5 SEC) dropped its second consecutive game to a top-five opponent, falling on the road at No. 5 Vanderbilt on Monday night, 102-86.

• Oklahoma struggled to slow Vanderbilt down in the first half as the Commodores' 31 first-quarter points were the most OU had allowed in a frame all season. Vanderbilt's 59 points in the first half were the most the Sooners had allowed in any half since Utah scored 70 in the first half of a 2022 game. The Sooners outpaced Vanderbilt by two in the third quarter but never cut the deficit to single digits as the Commodores won by 16.

• The loss marked OU's second consecutive as the Sooners have dropped back-to-back games just eight times under fifth-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk.

Raegan Beers finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, logging her nation-leading 17th double-double of the season as the center has reached double-digit points in 20 straight games.

Sahara Williams posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double in 28 minutes. The forward has registered a career-high six double-doubles this season.

• True freshman Aaliyah Chavez added 14 points, making seven of her eight attempts from inside the 3-point line, as the point guard added four rebounds and two assists. Chavez has scored in double figures in 17 straight games and in a team-high 22 this season.

Brooklyn Stewart notched a career high with 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting, adding five rebounds in the effort. Zya Vann neared a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

Payton Verhulst was the fifth Sooner in double figures, tallying 14 points and a team-high five assists.

• OU shot 45% on the day and the loss snapped a 17-game winning streak that stretched to last season when the Sooners shot 45% or better from the floor. Vanderbilt's 102 points were the most OU had allowed this season and the most since surrendering 107 to LSU last year. Entering the night, the Sooners were 15-0 when scoring 80 points, winning 22 straight, and hadn't lost when doing so since it fell to Kentucky, 96-85, last season.

• Oklahoma entered the night ranked third nationally in opponent field goal percentage and had held 18 opponents under their season scoring average, but the Commodores couldn't miss from the field as they shot 47% on the day and 63% in the first half.

• The Sooners host Florida at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman on Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT. The contest marks OU's lone home game across a five-game stretch. Last season, Oklahoma beat the Gators by 24 points in Gainesville.
