Sooners Defeat Arizona State Behind Pitching, Wells' Two-Run Homer

TEMPE, Ariz.  — Sophomore pitchers Audrey Lowry and Miali Guachino combined to only permit one hit and one earned run and freshman Kendall Wells hit a game-winning two-run home run in the sixth inning as the No. 3 Sooners (1-0) defeated Arizona State, 2-1, Thursday, Feb. 5 in the season opener.

Oklahoma has now won nine consecutive season openers with the victory.

#3 OU 2, (RV) Arizona State 1
Lowry retired ASU in order in the first and worked around a hit batter in the second inning to keep things scoreless through two. Abby Dayton doubled to center to start the third but would be stranded before ASU's Kaylee Pond hit a solo home run to right.

The lefty Lowry retired ASU in order in the fourth and fifth inning to keep OU within one. Ella Parker worked a leadoff walk and Arizona State's Kenzie Brown tallied a punchout before Kendall Wells launched a towering two-run home run to left center.

Lowry fanned one and worked a flyout to Kai Minor in right center before Miali Guachino entered and retired four of the final five batters of the game to seal the save.
