TEMPE, Ariz. — Sophomore pitchers
Audrey Lowry and
Miali Guachino combined to only permit one hit and one earned run and freshman
Kendall Wells hit a game-winning two-run home run in the sixth inning as the No. 3 Sooners (1-0) defeated Arizona State, 2-1, Thursday, Feb. 5 in the season opener.
Oklahoma has now won nine consecutive season openers with the victory.

Lowry retired ASU in order in the first and worked around a hit batter in the second inning to keep things scoreless through two.
Abby Dayton doubled to center to start the third but would be stranded before ASU's Kaylee Pond hit a solo home run to right.
The lefty Lowry retired ASU in order in the fourth and fifth inning to keep OU within one.
Ella Parker worked a leadoff walk and Arizona State's Kenzie Brown tallied a punchout before
Kendall Wells launched a towering two-run home run to left center.
Lowry fanned one and worked a flyout to
Kai Minor in right center before
Miali Guachino entered and retired four of the final five batters of the game to seal the save.

- Wells is the first Sooner to homer in her freshman debut since teammate Kasidi Pickering did so in 2024
- Garcia, a Chandler, Ariz., native returned to her home state. Her mother, Kara Brun, was a hall of fame softball player with ASU
- Lowry and Guachino combined to throw only 87 pitches
- The Sooners' season-opening starting lineup featured two newcomers and eight returners.
