No. 18 Men's Tennis Tops Ole Miss for First SEC Win

NORMAN – The No. 18 Oklahoma men's tennis team claimed its first SEC win over No. 32 Ole Miss in a 4-3 battle at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore Orel Kimhi clinched the match on court four with the match score at three-points-all. After winning the first set, Kimhi went ahead 5-4 off a deuce point and maintained the momentum to win the match, 7-5, 6-4.
The Sooners' first point came from doubles play with wins at the one and two positions. Senior duo Bruno Nhavene and Luis Alvarez were first to win, notching a 6-4 victory over the No. 40 Ole Miss pair off a deuce point. Nhavene and Alvarez's ranked win set up junior Hank Trondson and sophomore Alejandro Melero for the 6-4 clinching doubles win. The Sooner pair at the three line fell short, 3-6.
No. 49 Alvarez claimed the first singles point for OU in dominant fashion, winning 6-1, 6-2. Ole Miss tied the match with back-to-back singles wins on courts one and three but No. 89 Asahi Harazaki reclaimed the Sooner lead with a win on court five. Harazaki came from behind in the second set to win the match, 6-2, 7-5.
When Melero came up short on court six, all eyes shifted to court four where sophomore Orel Kimhi continued to fight in the second set to claim the match. After winning a deuce point to put him ahead, he closed out the match to seal the win for OU.
