LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners began conference play with matches against South Carolina and Ole Miss at the Headington Family Tennis Center. After falling short to the Gamecocks 4-3 in its conference opener on Saturday, Oklahoma bounced back and claimed a 4-3 win over the Rebels on Monday afternoon.

Oklahoma enters the weekend slate with a 9-2 overall record and a 1-1 SEC mark.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Senior Luis Alvarez has tallied five straight singles wins and will look to extend the streak over the weekend. Despite Oklahoma's narrow loss to South Carolina, Alvarez claimed a ranked singles win over No. 51 Sean Daryabeigi to put the Sooners in reach of the win with the third point. Alvarez came back from a first-set tiebreak loss to dominate sets two in three, winning the match 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-0.

Against Ole Miss, Alvarez notched wins on the singles and doubles side, contributing two [points to the Sooners' 4-3 win over the Rebels. His singles victory came in dominant fashion, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Mattieu Chambonniere and his doubles win with teammate Bruno Nhavene was the pair's first ranked win.

Alvarez has over 100 total career wins and has only lost one singles match in Oklahoma's 11 duals this season. He has two wins over nationally ranked opponents this season and is No. 49 in this week's ITA Singles Rankings.

IN THE RANKINGS

The Sooners are No. 33 in the Feb. 24 ITA team rankings with three players listed in the singles rankings and two doubles teams in the national rankings. In singles rankings, senior Luis Alvarez leads the pack at No. 49, followed by sophomore Oscar Lacides at No. 79 and junior Asahi Harazaki at No. 89.
