No. 1 OU Steady in Road Win at No. 5 Michigan

January 24, 2026 | Men's Gymnastics

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Redshirt senior Fuzzy Benas, redshirt sophomore Brandon Zepeda-Orth and freshman Nathan Roman won individual event titles to lead the No. 1 Oklahoma men's gymnastics team to a 321.850 to 320.650 road win at No. 5 Michigan Saturday afternoon at Cliff Keen Arena.

Benas took home the top score on floor exercise (14.150), Zepeda-Orth won high bar (14.150) and Nathan Roman claimed the parallel bars title (13.850). The Sooners finished ahead of the Wolverines on three events including floor exercise (53.500), vault (56.100) and parallel bars (52.950).

OU is the first team to defeat Michigan inside Cliff Keen Arena since the 2019 season.

"I'm really happy for my team," Oklahoma head Mark Williams said. "We just hung in there. I don't know that we did anything real special today and there weren't a lot of huge routines out there, but we kept hanging in there and got the job done. We also didn't have a whole lot of mistakes, so that's also good."

Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk placed second on floor exercise (13.950). Sophomore Colby Aranda earned third place on pommel horse with a career-high 14.100 and senior Ignacio Yockers placed fourth (13.600). Junior Tas Hajdu finished second on still rings with a 13.750 while sophomore Francisco Velez Belendez earned third with a 13.700.

The Sooners filled up the vault leaderboard with Bogonosiuk finishing second (14.250), Benas claiming third (14.050) and redshirt sophomore Max Bereznev and Roman tied for fourth (13.900). Bogonosiuk earned fourth on parallel bars (13.250) and Kelton Christiansen finished tied for second on high bar (14.100).
