No. 2 Oklahoma Shines in Victory over No. 5 Georgia

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team opened its home slate with an incredible 198.425-196.875 victory over No. 5 Georgia Friday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center.  

OU became the first team to hit the 198-plus mark this season as they improved to 4-0-1 on the season and 2-0 in SEC action.  

Sophomore Addison Fatta won the all-around with a career high 39.750. Freshman Mackenzie Estep secured the vault title with a near-perfect 9.975. Estep also shared the bars title with Fatta and junior Hannah Scheible as the trio notched matching 9.925s. Senior Faith Torrez claimed the beam title with her near-perfect performance for a 9.975 and freshman Kamila Pawlak earned a share of the floor title with a career high 9.95.  

OU took a commanding lead after the first rotation with a 49.625, the highest vault score in the nation this season, to lead by .325. The highlight of the rotation was Estep's nearly-perfect 1.5 for a 9.975. Fatta added a 9.95 as the anchor with a gorgeous 1.5. Junior Keira Wells and sophomores Elle Mueller and Lizzy Blessey added a trio of 9.90s, while sophomore Lily Pederson notched a 9.850.  

On bars, the Sooners rebounded from their performance in Missouri with a solid 49.475 to lead 99.100-98.700 at the halfway point. A trio of Sooners had matching 9.925s as Scheible, Fatta and Estep all nailed their dismounts. Torrez anchored with a 9.875 and Pederson added a 9.825 in the No. 2 spot. Freshman Ella Murphy notched a 9.800 as the Sooners held the lead heading into beam.  

After posting the nation's highest beam score this season with a 49.675, the Sooners led 148.775-148.250 heading to the final rotation. In the leadoff spot once again, Fatta tied her career high with an incredible 9.95 as she showed off her poise and stuck her gainer full dismount. In the No. 2 spot, Wells tied her career high with a 9.95 of her own. Murphy followed the veterans by showing off her elegant lines and exquisite ring jump for a career best 9.95. Pederson added a 9.850 in the No. 4 spot, followed by the beam debut of Mueller with a 9.825. Anchoring with near perfection was Torrez with a season best 9.975.  

OU closed out the meet with their best floor performance of the season, earning a 49.650 to secure the victory. Pederson got things started with an energizing routine for a season high 9.925. Murphy added a career high with her own 9.925 as she nailed her opening pass and stuck the double back. Pawlak showed off her captivating choreography and strong tumbling for a career high 9.95. Mueller kept the 9.90-plus scores coming as she tallied a 9.925 in the No. 4 spot. Estep's high energy performance tied her season best 9.925, while Fatta finished the afternoon with a matching 9.925.  

LOOKING AHEAD 

A trip to Lexington, Ky., is on the calendar for the Sooners as they face the Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 31. This will be just the second trip to Kentucky for the Sooners in program history and the first since the 2012 season opener.
