No. 6 Sooners to Host ITA Kickoff Weekend Matches

January 22, 2026 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team will host matches in Norman as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend, serving as one of 14 regional sites across the country. Action will take place at the Headington Family Tennis Center, with a trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships on the line.

This weekend marks the third time in the last four seasons that Oklahoma has hosted ITA Kickoff Weekend action. Last season, the Sooners defeated San Diego State and No. 14 Cal in Berkeley, Calif., to clinch a spot at the Team Indoors.

MATCHDAY BASICS

The four-team field at the Norman Regional will feature No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 9 Stanford, Yale and Memphis.

OU will open play against Memphis in the first round on Friday at 2 p.m., while Stanford and Yale will square off on the opposite side of the bracket. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats or by watching on PlaySight.

The winners of Friday's matches will advance to Sunday's championship match, with the winner earning a berth to the ITA National Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 6–9 in Evanston/Champaign, Ill. The remaining teams will compete in a consolation match on Sunday.

The Sooners' 2025 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center are open to the public and free of charge. Oklahoma follows a clear bag policy. OU keychains will be available for free while supplies last at Friday's match.

LAST TIME OUT

Oklahoma opened the spring dual season with back-to-back doubleheaders, most recently sweeping Wichita State, 4-1, and Texas State, 7-0, on Jan. 17 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Against Wichita State, the Sooners secured the doubles point before singles wins from Chloé Noël, Salakthip Ounmuang and No. 24 Julia Garcia Ruiz sealed the victory. OU then turned around to face Texas State, earning another doubles point and rolling through singles play, highlighted by straight-set wins across the lineup to complete the shutout.

SOONERS IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked No. 6 nationally as a team.

Individually, Julia Garcia Ruiz is ranked No. 24 in singles. In doubles, the Sooners boast three ranked pairs: Gloriana Nahum and Roisin Gilheany hold the No. 1 spot, Garcia Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre are ranked No. 32, and the duo of Chloé Noël and Nahum sits at No. 45.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Sophomore Salakthip Ounmuang played a key role in Oklahoma's opening weekend success. Competing at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles positions and at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, Ounmuang posted a perfect 7-0 record without dropping a set. Her singles victory against Tarleton State clinched the Sooners' first win of the season.

UP NEXT

Following ITA Kickoff Weekend, Oklahoma will return to action on the road with a matchup at Tulsa on Feb. 4. The Sooners' next home contest is set for Feb. 22 against Arkansas at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
