Sooners Host Top-Five Matchup Friday at 1:45

January 22, 2026 | Women's Gymnastics

NORMAN — For the first time in 2026, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is at home inside Lloyd Noble Center. The No. 2 ranked Sooners will host No. 5 Georgia on Friday at 1:45 p.m. CT. Bart Conner and Bridget Sloan will have the call on SEC Network.

Friday's meet was originally slated for a 5:45 p.m. start, but the meet time was adjusted due to projected inclement weather in the Norman area.

SWEET HOME OKLAHOMA
Oklahoma is 153-4 inside Lloyd Noble Center since the arrival of head coach K.J. Kindler in 2007 and has posted 91 consecutive home victories across 60 meets dating back to 2014. The 2026 senior class is currently undefeated at home in their careers. OU has five regular season home meets in 2026, welcoming Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Auburn and TWU to the LNC.

WEEKEND REWIND
Hitting the road for the first SEC meet of the season, the Sooners grinded out a win over No. 7 Missouri, 197.425-196.925. A trio of Sooners shared the vault title with Elizabeth Blessey, Keira Wells and Mackenzie Estep earning matching 9.925s. Ella Murphy won the bars title with a 9.850 while Faith Torrez won the beam title with her second straight score of 9.950. Behind by .200 after the first rotation, the Sooners used a big score on vault to take a lead they would never relinquish. After a fall in the fifth spot on beam, Torrez came up clutch with a 9.95 to secure the victory for OU.

MURPHY NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
After another strong performance, Ella Murphy was named the freshman of the week on Jan. 20. Murphy is the second Sooner to be honored this season as fellow freshman Mackenzie Estep was named freshman of the week after the first week of competition. After competing just two events in the season opener, Murphy was added to the floor lineup where she earned a career high 9.875 in her debut routine. The Frisco, Texas, native once again was a highlight on beam as she tallied her second straight 9.925 on the event. Murphy is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation and is the only freshman ranked in the top 10 on beam. On bars, she won her first event title with a 9.850.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
Through the first two weeks of the season, the freshmen class has already made a major impact. After combining for half of OU's 10 scores of 9.9-plus in the season opener, the freshmen kept it going at Missouri with all their scores counting toward the team total. The trio of Mackenzie Estep, Ella Murphy and Kamila Pawlak have contributed over 25 percent of OU's routines in 2026 and account for at least two freshmen being in three of the four lineups. Murphy is the only freshman in the beam lineup, while all three were in the floor lineup against Missouri.

YOUNG AND HUNGRY
With 11 underclassmen on this year's roster, the Sooners are younger than they have been in the last few years. However, the freshmen and sophomore classes have taken the reigns and are prepared to lead the team. The underclassmen have combined for 70 percent of routines competed in 2026 (34-of-48). The freshmen have contributed 13 routines through two meets while the sophomores are responsible for 21. Mackenzie Estep, Addison Fatta, Ella Murphy and Lily Pederson have all competed at least three events in at least one meet this season. Through two meets, the freshmen and sophomores have a hit rate of 97 percent (33-of-34).

THE RANKINGS ARE IN
A 197.425 in the SEC opener has the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team holding steady at No. 2 in the nation with an average of 197.463 through two weeks of competition. Florida remained No. 1 with a 197.575 average, while Alabama (197.375), LSU (197.175) and Georgia (197.100) round out the top five. On the events, OU is No. 1 on vault (49.463), No. 2 on beam (49.488), No. 7 on bars (49.288) and No. 11 on floor (49.225). Individually, six athletes hold nine individual rankings, including four top 10 marks. A pair of Sooners rank in the top five on vault with Faith Torrez and Mackenzie Estep tied at No. 4 with a 9.912 average. Addison Fatta is No. 15 (9.887) and Keira Wells is No. 20 (9.875). Torrez holds the No. 2 spot on beam with a 9.950 average, while Ella Murphy also sits in the top 10 at No. 8 (9.925). Murphy is the lone Sooners in the top 25 on bars with a 9.888 average, good for No. 16 in the nation, while Estep is the only ranked Sooner on floor at No. 12 (9.90). Lily Pederson is No. 23 in the all-around with a 39.250.

CLUB 197
The Sooners have posted a score of 197 or higher in 76 of their last 78 meets. OU is one of just four schools who have posted a 197-plus in all meets this season, along with Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The program record of 45-consecutive meets with a 197-plus was snapped at the 2024 NCAA Semifinals. During the streak, 32 of the 45 meet scores were a 198 or higher. Currently, the Sooners have posted a 197-plus in 19 consecutive meets.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
No. 5 Georgia: The Bulldogs enter Friday's meet coming off an upset-victory over then-No. 2 LSU last weekend. The win marked the first victory over LSU since Feb. 13, 2016, and the first top-five-ranked win at home since March 11, 2017 (Utah). Georgia's 197.000 in their season opener was only the second time in program history and first since 2007 (vs. Stanford, 197.375) that the GymDogs recorded a 197.000 or better in a season opener. Georgia didn't top the 197.000 mark until the fifth meet of the season last year on Feb. 7.

QUICK FLIPS
  • The Sooners four returning All-Americans are tied for most in the nation with Alabama, Florida and Missouri.
  • Through the first two meets of the season 11 different athletes have competed for Oklahoma.
  • With a 197.500 in the season opener, the Sooners have scored a 197-plus in the opening meet of the year every year since 2017.
  • Faith Torrez is one of just six gymnasts to rank in the top six nationally in two or more events, not including the all-around.

LOOKING AHEAD

A trip to Lexington, Ky., is on the calendar for the Sooners as they face the Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 31. This will be just the second trip to Kentucky for the Sooners in program history and the first since the 2012 season opener.
