Kuol Atak made a career-high six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points, and junior
Xzayvier Brown finished with 22 points and five assists to lead Oklahoma to a 93-69 home win over Mississippi Valley State on Monday night to wrap up non-conference play.
One game after shooting a program-record 67.8% from the field against Stetson, the Sooners (10-3) shot 57.9% against the Delta Devils (1-13), good for their second-best performance of the season.
OU tied a season high with 14 3-pointers on 32 attempts en route to a 43.8% effort. Atak made his first five shots from behind the arc and finished with a career-high six treys on 10 attempts while Brown went 4 for 8 from deep as the Sooners outscored MVSU by 18 from long distance.
Atak, whose previous career high was 18 points in the season opener, added career highs with five assists and two assists in his 25 minutes. He made his first seven field goal attempts of the night.
For Brown, it was his fourth straight game of at least 18 points. He's averaging 20.5 points on 61.7% field goal shooting during the stretch.
Mississippi Valley State, which hasn't won since Nov. 5, led 25-23 before five points from
Nijel Pack and Atak's fourth triple put the Sooners up 31-25 with 5:55 left in the first half. Atak hit another trey with 4:24 remaining, his fifth on five tries. He finished the half with 19 points in 15 minutes to help OU to a 43-34 advantage.
After an MVSU four-point play to open the second half, Oklahoma went on a 26-11 run to go up by 20 (69-49) with 10:20 to go. Brown scored 10 during the spurt.
OU extended its lead to as many as 27 points on a Pack 3-pointer with 1:48 left. The first-year Sooner was 2 for 5 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points and a season-high seven assists.
Forward
Tae Davis scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and guard
Jadon Jones came off the bench to contribute eight points, four rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
Center
Kirill Elatontsev made his OU debut after joining the team three days earlier. The 6-11, 240-pounder played 18 minutes and finished with six points, four rebounds and an assist. He was 2 for 3 from the field and made both of his free throw attempts.
The Sooners were without the services of guard
Dayton Forsythe and center
Kai Rogers, who missed the game due to injury.
Oklahoma has scored at least 90 points six times in its 13 games after doing it five times in 34 contests last season.
OU opens SEC play by hosting Ole Miss (8-5) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT at Lloyd Noble Center.
