WEEKEND RECAP
OU split its weekend at home, picking up a four-set win over South Carolina and falling in four to Georgia. Against South Carolina, the Sooners tallied a season-high 16.5 blocks. Kelli Jo Burgess set a career high with nine blocks, including three solo, to go with nine kills on a .643 clip. Emoni Bush tied her career high with six blocks and added six digs. In the loss to Georgia, Alexis Shelton led the way offensively with 21 kills. Bush added 12 kills and was just a dig shy of her second double-double with nine on the day. Burgess had seven kills on 13 swings for a .538 mark, while adding two blocks.

ALL EYES ON ALEXIS
Senior Alexis Shelton was named to the preseason watch list for the AVCA's 2025 Division I Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball.Shelton leads the Sooners this season with 234 kills across 63 sets played. The senior is averaging 3.71 kills/set and is just shy of a .300 hitting percentage at .288. She has added five service aces, 87 digs and 48 blocks to her season stats. After becoming the 15th Sooner to reach 1,000 kills, Shelton has climbed into the top 10 in program history and currently sits in seventh with 1,352. She is now the all-time kills leader in the 25-point rally scoring era. Shelton is the first Sooner since Kierra Holst in 2015 to break into the top 10 all-time. Shelton needs just 68 kills to move into sixth, the highest spot she can realistically reach in her career.

THE KELLI JO SHOW
Redshirt junior Kelli Jo Burgess is quietly having the best season of her career. In 2024, Burgess tallied 78 kills in 21 matches and just one match with more than 10 kills. This season, Burgess has 121 kills and four double-digit performances. The Lehi, Utah, native, hit .238 in 2024 and is hitting .463 on 218 attempts this season. Burgess is on pace to set not only the single-season hitting percentage record, but the all-time percentage record. The current single-season record, set in 2013 by Sallie McLaurin, is .423, and only two players have ever hit over .400 in a career in the 25-point rally scoring era. McLaurin also holds the all-time record with a .363 career hitting percentage. Burgess is currently hitting .384 in just two seasons at OU, but needs 102 more attempts to be eligible for the record. On the defensive side, Burgess has tallied 78.0 blocks through 16 games. Her 9.0 blocks against South Carolina on Oct. 10 are a career high. Burgess is the current team leader in blocks, averaging 1.24 per set. She has 25 more blocks than the next closest athlete and leads the team with 11 solo blocks.

STATS & RANKINGS
Kelli Jo Burgess represents the Sooners nationally, sitting in fourth in hitting percentage at .463. Burgess is the highest ranked Power 4 athlete and atop the SEC. In the SEC, she is also No. 8 in blocks with 1.24 per set. Emoni Bush is ranked in the SEC, sitting at No. 9 with 0.37 aces per set. In conference matches only, Burgess is No. 3 in hitting percentage (.457) and blocks (1.56/set). Alexis Shelton is No. 10 in kills with 4.08 per set and No. 8 in points/set with 4.66. Tekoa Barnes is tied for seventh with .035 aces/set.

ACES ARE HIGH
In 2024, the Sooners recorded 114 service aces over 26 matches with just one match in double-digits. This season, OU has tallied 108 aces in just 16 matches with four double-digit performances. OU posted back-to-back matches with at least 10 aces against Vanderbilt and Missouri. The Sooners have recorded at least one ace in 15 of 16 matches this season and at least five in 12 matches. Emoni Bush leads the team with 23 on the season, followed by Tekoa Barnes with 21.

SERIES HISTORY
No. 10 TEXAS A&M: The Aggies lead the all-time series 39-8, though the teams have split the last four meetings. OU won both matches in 2018, while A&M won in 2019 and 2024. Since OU's first win in 2006, the Sooners lead 8-7 in the last 15 matches played.

No. 2 TEXAS: Sunday's Red River Rivalry marks the 70th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Sooners won their first match since 2014 in 2024, splitting the two-game series with the Longhorns. Texas leads the all-time series 64-5.
