THE MORE YOU KNOW

LOOK BACK AT IT
The Sooners claimed their first victory of the season, earning a 197.550 at the American Gold Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Classic in Nashville on Jan. 4. OU moved to 3-0 on the season with wins over Auburn (195.950), BYU (194.625) and Nebraska (194.475).

Five Sooners competed in the all-around for Oklahoma. Faith Torrez claimed the all-around title with a 39.625, while freshman Lily Pederson came in second with a 39.550. Audrey Davis earned a 39.425, Addison Fatta scored a 39.325 and Jordan Bowers earned a 39.275.

The Sooners also secured the event title on all four events. Keira Wells earned the vault title with a 9.95, while Davis brought home the uneven bars title with a 9.95 and shared floor with Torrez with matching 9.875s. Pederson's 9.95 secured her the beam title.

WELLS HONORED BY SEC
Sophomore Keira Wells earned the program's first SEC honor as she was named the SEC Specialist of the Week after a strong opening weekend of competition. Wells posted the highest score of the meet to claim the event title with a 9.95 on her Yurchenko 1.5. Wells' 9.95 was a career high for the sophomore and tied for the highest score in the nation on the event. She helped the team to a 49.450 on the event, the highest score in the country.

ALL-AROUND EXCELLENCE
When the Sooners took the floor on Jan. 4, five athletes found themselves competing in the all-around: Jordan Bowers, Audrey Davis, Addison Fatta, Lily Pederson and Faith Torrez. Bowers, Davis and Torrez all have substantial all-around experience, while Fatta and Pederson made their collegiate all-around debuts as freshmen.

Torrez led the way with a 39.625, followed by Pederson with a 39.550. Pederson's mark of 39.550 is the second-highest debut all-around score for a freshman in OU history. The Minnesota native is behind just Maggie Nichols and Olivia Trautman who each tallied a 39.725 in their premier all-around appearances.

THERE'S ONLY ONE
After posting the highest score in the nation on opening weekend with a 197.550, Oklahoma remained the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Sooners were one of just two schools to post a 197-plus score in the first week of competition. Coming in at No. 2 is LSU with a 197.300, followed by Michigan State (196.850), Utah (196.775) and Missouri (196.700).

The Sooners are also ranked No. 1 on a pair of events with a 49.450 on vault and 49.550 on bars. OU is No. 2 on beam with a 49.400 and fifth on floor with a 49.150. The team's 49.550 on bars was the highest of any individual event on the weekend and one of just two 49.500-plus event scores.

FRESHMAN IMPACT
A trio of freshmen made their collegiate debuts in the season opener, combining for nine of the team's 24 competitive routines. Addison Fatta and Lily Pederson each competed in the all-around, while Elle Mueller competed on the uneven bars. Mueller also competed an exhibition floor routine, while Kelsey Slade performed an exhibition routine on bars, showing the depth of the freshman class.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
No. 2 LSU:
The Tigers come in at No. 2 this week after posting the only other score of 197-plus over the weekend. LSU earned a 197.300 in a dual-meet victory over Iowa State. Aleah Finnegan led the way with a 39.725 in the all-around, earning SEC Gymnast of the Week honors. Kailin Chio was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after a 39.575 performance in the all-around. LSU leads the nation on floor with a 49.500 mark.

No. 4 Utah: Utah posted a 196.775 in its opening meet against Utah State to sit at No. 4 after the first week of competition. The Red Rocks are the No. 1 ranked beam team after scoring a 49.475 on the apparatus. Makenna Smith led the way with a 39.500 in the all-around.

No. 6 California: California enters Saturday's meet ranked No. 6 in the nation after a 196.275 in the season opener. The Golden Bears picked up wins over UCLA and Oregon State Saturday night, led by a 39.525 from Mya Lauzon in the all-around.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Sooners will head home to Lloyd Noble Center for the SEC opener on Friday, Jan. 17. OU will host Missouri at 7:15 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
