MANHATTAN, Kan. – Oklahoma volleyball wrapped up non-conference play with a sweep over Kansas State, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23, Sunday afternoon inside Morgan Family Arena.
Alexis Shelton led the Sooners with 18 kills, while hitting .310 and adding nine digs and four blocks.
Kari Geissberger finished with eight kills on 12 swings with no errors for a .667 hitting percentage. Both Shelton and Geissberger were named to the all-tournament team.
Payton Chamberlain recorded her first double-double of the season with 43 assists and 11 digs.
Callie Kemohah chipped in 10 digs, while
Whitney Wallace added eight.
OU trailed for most of the first set, before pulling even at 18-18 on a block from Geissberger and Burgess. After the Wildcats pulled ahead by two, the Sooners used a 7-0 run to close out the opening frame and take the set 25-20.
The second set was all Oklahoma as the Sooners led wire-to-wire. As a team, the Sooners hit .333, while holding the Wildcats to just .100. Shelton led the way with six kills, while also adding two blocks.
The Sooners were firing on all cylinders in the final set, hitting .485 with 19 kills. OU controlled the set early before the Wildcats tied it at 15-15 and took their first lead at 18-17. With the Sooners at match point, K-State rattled off two quick points to make it 24-23 before a kill from
Kamille Gibson clinched the match.
The Sooners begin their first season of conference play in the SEC on Thursday when the Florida Gators travel to McCasland Field House.
