No. 1 Sooners Headed to No. 12 Arkansas Sunday Afternoon

March 08, 2024 | Women's Gymnastics

NORMAN – The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is set for a Sunday matinee at No. 12 Arkansas on March 10. The meet is set for a 3:45 p.m. start time and will air on SEC Network+.

The Sooners and Razorbacks will meet for the final time as non-conference opponents on Sunday as the Sooners will join the SEC on Julu 1 of this year. Sunday's meet is the final regular season road trip for the Sooners and the first and only away dual of the year for OU.

THE MORE YOU KNOW

THE BEAM QUEEN
Fifth-year senior Ragan Smith has now earned back-to-back-to-back-to-back perfect scores on balance beam. The Lewisville, Texas, native earned back-to-back 10.0s on beam over the Sooners two weekend meets, moving into first place for most perfect scores on the event in program history with nine. Smith is now tied with Maggie Nichols for most perfect scores on any event in OU history as Nichols earned nine 10.0s on vault in her OU career (2017-20). Smith is the first gymnast in OU history to earn four-straight perfect marks on any event and is the only gymnast in the nation to do so in 2024. She is tied for most perfect scores with LSU's Haleigh Bryant who has four across three events.

AMAZING AUDREY
Senior Audrey Davis has been an impeccable uneven bars worker in her time at OU. On Sunday, March 3, she was finally rewarded with her first career perfect 10. Currently the No. 1 ranked gymnast in the nation, Davis has shown exceptional consistency on bars. In 56 career routines, she has only scored below 9.90 twelve times, with nine of those being a 9.875, and how never scored below 9.80. Of her 44 scores over 9.9 she has tallied ten 9.9s, five 9.925s, sixteen 9.95s, one 9.9625 and eleven 9.975s.

Davis has also been one of the most consistent gymnastics to ever wear an OU leotard across all events. Davis has hit 187 of 188 career routines – a .994 percentage – over the last four years. Her lone fall came on balance beam in the 12th routine of her career. Since then, Davis has hit 176 routines in a row, dating all the way back to Feb. 7, 2021.

RECORD BREAKERS
On Friday, Feb. 23, the Sooners broke their program scoring record with an incredible 198.675 against West Virginia. The score ranks fourth all-time in NCAA history and OU is just the fourth program to score over a 198.600 in competition (Florida, UCLA, Stanford). Not only did the Sooners break the program record, OU tied the school record on beam with a 49.800. Ragan Smith earned a perfect 10 to cap off the record-breaking rotation, earning herself a share of the record for most perfect scores on beam in OU history. Smith joins Sooner great Maggie Nichols at the top of the standings with seven career 10.0s on beam.

TO 198 AND BEYOND
Oklahoma has totaled 70 scores of 198 or better in program history, including 62 scores since 2016. Of those 70 scores, only 27 have been earned at home, with 43 coming at road or neutral site competitions. Twenty of those scores have come in regional or national competitions, including a 198.3875 at the 2023 NCAA Championship which tied for the highest NCAA Finals score in history. In 2024, the Sooners earned a new program-best with a 198.675 against West Virginia on Feb. 23. The Sooners have tallied seven scores of 198-plus this season and are on pace to break the NCAA record of 10. OU currently holds the record, achieving the feat in 2018, 2022 and 2023. OU has posted six-straight marks of 198-plus this season, becoming the first school to ever do so. No school has posted more than three straight in history.

CLOUD 9.9
In 10 meets, the Sooners have posted 146 scores of 9.9 or higher – an average of 14.6 per meet and 61% of all routines. Twice this season, the Sooners have earned a 9.9 or higher on 19 of 24 routines in a meet – a rate of 79 percent. The Sooners lead the nation with 146 scores of 9.9 or higher, followed by LSU with 107 and Cal with 94. Only the Sooners have tallied double-digit marks of 9.9 or better in every meet this season.

TOP TOTALS
Of the nation's top scores this season, the Sooners hold three of the top five spots and six of the top 10 spots. The Sooners hold the No. 1 spot with a 198.675, No. 2 spot with a 198.650, No. 4 with a 198.450, No. 6 with a 198.375, No. 7 with a 198.325 and No. 9 with a 198.300. The only other schools represented in the top 10 are LSU at No. 3 (198.475), No. 6 (198.325) and No. 8 (198.300) and California at No. 5 (198.400).

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Arkansas:
The Razorbacks are currently No. 12 in the nation and are coming off a win over Missouri last Sunday. In the win, Arkansas posted a program-record score of 197.650, their sixth score of 197-plus this season which was also a program record. In addition to the team total, Arkansas set a program high on beam with a 49.575. Arkansas is 4-2-1 in the SEC – the most victories since 2016 and most under head coach Jordyn Wieber.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Sooners will return to Lloyd Noble Center on Sunday, March 17, for a Big 12/SEC battle with Alabama. The meet is set for 2:45 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN2. The meet will serve as senior day for the 2024 senior class of Audrey Davis, Soraya Hawthorne, Bell Johnson, Katherine LeVasseur, Sheridan Ramsey, Ragan Smith and Meilin Sullivan.
