Sooners Prepped to Host San Diego, Virginia Commonwealth

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team will host a pair of matches this weekend as the Sooners face No. 14 San DiegoĀ Friday, March 8 at 6 p.m. andĀ Virginia CommonwealthĀ Sunday, March 10 at 10 a.m.
MATCHDAY BASICS
Matches for the 2024 men's tennis season are free of charge and open to the public. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Free pizza and schedule posters will be provided along with a racquet giveaway for fans in attendance. The clear bag policy will be in place.Ā
Fans can follow Friday's match through livestream or live stats and Sunday's match can be tracked through live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
The Sooners earned a win on their home courts against Cornell, improving to 8-2 on the season.
After dropping the doubles in a loss on the third court, the Sooners swiftly tied the match after fifth-year senior Mark Mandlik took a straight-set win on court six. Fifth-year senior Alex Martinez's straight-set win over the nation's then-No. 17 Radu Papoe gave the Sooners the lead in the dual. Earning his third singles win of the season, fifth-year senior Justin Schlageter extended the lead for the Sooners.Ā Freshman Kholo Montsi sealed the match for Oklahoma with a win at the three line, extending his 6-0 record for the season.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS
With a No. 14 national team ranking, San Diego also has one doubles team and two singles players in the ITA rankings. Sacchitt Sharrma and partner Stian Klaassen are currently ranked No. 34 in the nation. Oliver Tarvet holds the No. 5 spot in singles, with teammate Iiro Vasa sitting at the No. 85 spot. The team has a 9-1 season record, having a loss to then-No. 7 USC in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship.
TRACKING THE RAMS
VCU holds the No. 33 spot in the ITA team rankings, along with one doubles rank and two singles rankings. German Samofalov and Oscar Pinto Sansano sit at the No. 31 spot in the ITA doubles rankings. Mathias Bondaz appears first in singles rankings for the Rams at No. 41 and is followed by Matisse Bobichan in the No. 70 spot. The Rams have a 7-5 record on the season.
