Women's Tennis Set for Two-Match Road Trip

NORMANĀ - The No. 21Ā Oklahoma women's tennis team is set to hitĀ the road forĀ two conference matches this weekend, beginning with No. 57 UCFĀ on FridayĀ before traveling back westĀ to faceĀ HoustonĀ onĀ Sunday.

MATCHDAY BASICSĀ 

First serve against the KnightsĀ is set for 5Ā p.m. CT on Friday. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats. A live stream will also be available.Ā Ā 

Sunday's match against the CougarsĀ is scheduledĀ for 1Ā p.m. CT.Ā The contest can be followed through live statsĀ and live video.Ā 

LAST TIME OUTĀ 

TheĀ No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team picked up their secondĀ win of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, battling pastĀ West Virginia, 6-1,Ā at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

OklahomaĀ dropped just one singles matchĀ all weekend. Against the Mountaineers, the Sooners won the doubles point for the fifthĀ straight matchĀ to take the early 1-0 lead.

Chloe Noel andĀ Ava CatanzariteĀ opened play on court three, defeatingĀ Ting-Pei Chang and Tatiana LipatovaĀ 6-3. The No. 63 doubles pairing ofĀ Julia Garcia RuizĀ andĀ Zdena SafarovaĀ clinched the doubles point for OU with their 6-3Ā win over Love-Star Alexis and Maja DodikĀ of West VirginiaĀ at the No. 2 position.Ā 

The top court played through and saw OU's No.22Ā Roisin GilheanyĀ andĀ Dana GuzmanĀ topĀ Michaela Kucharova and Momoko Nagato, 6-2.

In singles, the Sooners won fiveĀ courtsĀ to secure the win over the Mountaineers.

No. 33 Garcia RuizĀ won OU's first singlesĀ point on the top courtĀ after not dropping a set to WVU'sĀ Alexis, 6-3, 6-1.Ā 

Guzman, ranked No. 42,Ā matched Garcia Ruiz on court twoĀ byĀ defeatingĀ Maya Bordereau, 6-3, 6-1.Ā 

Noel clinched the win for OU with the Sooners' fourth dual point Sunday, ending her singles match inĀ straight sets over NagatoĀ 7-6 (4), 6-1. CatanzariteĀ defeated Dodik of West VirginiaĀ 7-5, 6-2,Ā at the No. 4Ā spot.

Adding to the team scoreĀ for OU wasĀ Emma Staker, whoĀ played her secondĀ match of the weekendĀ on court five. The junior from Tulsa defeatedĀ ChangĀ 6-4, 6-3.

IN THE RANKINGSĀ 

The Sooners (7-4, 2-1 Big 12) Ā currently have fourĀ players in the ITA singles rankings. Leading the pack is No. 33Ā Julia Garcia Ruiz, followed by No. 42Ā Dana Guzman, No. 43Ā Florencia UrrutiaĀ and No. 72Ā Alina Shcherbinina.Ā Ā Ā 

In doubles, OU is represented by No. 3Ā Guzman and Shcherbinina, followed by No. 22 GuzmanĀ andĀ Roisin Gilheany, and rounded out by No. 63 Garcia Ruiz andĀ Zdena Safarova.Ā Ā 

The Knights have on representative in the singles rankings, as Sophia Biolay checks in at No. 106.Ā
