Women's Tennis Set for Two-Match Road Trip

NORMAN - The No. 21 Oklahoma women's tennis team is set to hit the road for two conference matches this weekend, beginning with No. 57 UCF on Friday before traveling back west to face Houston on Sunday.

MATCHDAY BASICS 

First serve against the Knights is set for 5 p.m. CT on Friday. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats. A live stream will also be available.  

Sunday's match against the Cougars is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. The contest can be followed through live stats and live video

LAST TIME OUT 

The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team picked up their second win of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, battling past West Virginia, 6-1, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Oklahoma dropped just one singles match all weekend. Against the Mountaineers, the Sooners won the doubles point for the fifth straight match to take the early 1-0 lead.

Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite opened play on court three, defeating Ting-Pei Chang and Tatiana Lipatova 6-3. The No. 63 doubles pairing of Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova clinched the doubles point for OU with their 6-3 win over Love-Star Alexis and Maja Dodik of West Virginia at the No. 2 position. 

The top court played through and saw OU's No.22 Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman top Michaela Kucharova and Momoko Nagato, 6-2.

In singles, the Sooners won five courts to secure the win over the Mountaineers.

No. 33 Garcia Ruiz won OU's first singles point on the top court after not dropping a set to WVU's Alexis, 6-3, 6-1. 

Guzman, ranked No. 42, matched Garcia Ruiz on court two by defeating Maya Bordereau, 6-3, 6-1. 

Noel clinched the win for OU with the Sooners' fourth dual point Sunday, ending her singles match in straight sets over Nagato 7-6 (4), 6-1. Catanzarite defeated Dodik of West Virginia 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot.

Adding to the team score for OU was Emma Staker, who played her second match of the weekend on court five. The junior from Tulsa defeated Chang 6-4, 6-3.

IN THE RANKINGS 

The Sooners (7-4, 2-1 Big 12)  currently have four players in the ITA singles rankings. Leading the pack is No. 33 Julia Garcia Ruiz, followed by No. 42 Dana Guzman, No. 43 Florencia Urrutia and No. 72 Alina Shcherbinina.   

In doubles, OU is represented by No. 3 Guzman and Shcherbinina, followed by No. 22 Guzman and Roisin Gilheany, and rounded out by No. 63 Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova.  

The Knights have on representative in the singles rankings, as Sophia Biolay checks in at No. 106. 

UP NEXT 

The Sooners will hit return home for a pair of ranked conference clashes, beginning with a match against No. 65 Kansas State on Friday, March 22 at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a Bedlam matchup with No. 1 Oklahoma State on Sunday, March 24 at 12 p.m. CT.
