Sooners Prepped to Host Drake, Travel to Middle Tennessee

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team is set to host the Drake Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. CT before heading to Murfreesboro, Tenn.Ā to face the Middle Tennessee StateĀ on Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m. CT.Ā
MATCHDAY BASICS
Matches for the 2024 men's tennis season are free of charge and open to the public. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Free pizza and schedule posters will be provided along with a racquet giveaway for fans in attendance. The clear bag policy will be in place.Ā
Fans can follow Tuesday's match through livestream or live stats and Friday's match can be live streamed from the indoor or outdoor courts,Ā or tracked through live stats.Ā
LAST TIME OUT
The Sooners earned two wins at home over the weekend to improve their season record to 10-2.
After dropping the doubles point in the match against No. 14 San Diego, the Sooners fought back to achieve an upset over the top-15 team. Junior Jordan Hasson and fifth-year seniors Mark Mandlik and Justin Schlageter put the Sooners in prime position to win the match against San Diego after winning each of their singles matches in three sets. Fifth-year senior and No. 54Ā Alex Martinez secured his second-straight top-20 upset over the nation's No. 5 Oliver Tarvet to clinch the win for the Sooners over San Diego after winning the match in a third-set tiebreak.
The Sooners improved their win streak with another ranked win over No. 33 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday morning, 4-1. Oklahoma got a strong start after winning the doubles point and Martinez extended the lead with yet another ranked win. He topped VCU's No. 41 Mathis Bondaz in straight sets and only dropped one game in the match. Martinez's wins over the weekend marked three ranked wins in the last three matches, with two of the wins being over top-20 opponents. A win from Mandlik at the six line pushed the Sooners closer to the win and freshman Kholo Montsi sealed the ranked win for Oklahoma, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Drake has one doubles team present in the ITA rankings with Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic sitting at the No. 61 spot. The Bulldogs are currently 8-5 on the season.
TRACKING THE BLUE RAIDERS
Currently holding the No. 39 ranked position as a team, the Middle Tennessee State Bulldogs also have two singles players present in the ITA rankings. Leo Raquin is currently the No. 29 player in the nation. He is joined in the singles rankings by teammate Marcel Kamrowski, who holds the No. 114 position. The team has a 14-7 record for the season.
UP NEXT
The Sooners kick off conference play following the conclusion of this week's matches. The Sooners head to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m.. The team will then travel to Provo, Utah to take on BYU on Sunday, March 23 at 12 p.m.
