BATON ROUGE, La. – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a four-set match, 25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 22-25, to LSU Friday night inside the Pete Maravich Center. The Sooners fell to 7-6 on the season and 1-4 in SEC play while LSU improved to 10-6 and 2-3 in league play.
Alexis Shelton led the Sooners with her fourth 20-kill match of the season, recording 21 kills on a .359 clip. The junior also added six digs, four blocks and a service ace to her night.
Kari Geissberger notched double-digit kills with 10 at a .375 clip, while
Lydia Martyn was errorless on the evening with nine kills on a .629 clip.
Payton Chamberlain tallied 43 assists to go with four blocks, while
Callie Kemohah recorded a team-high 11 digs.
Jasmine Ellison notched four service aces on the night as the Sooners recorded eight as a team.
The Tigers took a 7-3 lead after a 6-0 run to start the first set. OU answered with 5-1 run to tie the match at 8-all. A second run gave OU a 13-11 lead they wouldn't relinquish as the Sooners used four service aces to take a 25-22 victory.
Despite hitting .464, the Sooners dropped the second set, 25-22. OU led 22-20 late, but a 5-0 run by the Tigers evened the match. After leading 17-10 in the third set, the Sooners lead would slip away as LSU pulled within one at 23-22. OU had set point at 24-22, but a 4-0 run gave the Tigers the 26-24 win.
OU held the lead at the media timeout, 15-13, but LSU tied the match at 17-all. The Sooners came back to tie things up at 22, but a 3-0 run clinched the match for the Tigers.
The Sooners will continue their three-game road swing with matches at Georgia and South Carolina next weekend. OU will face Georgia on Oct. 18, before taking on the Gamecocks on Oct. 20 on SEC Network.
