Sweep Sends OU to Finals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated Washington in a 4-0 sweep to advance to the championship match of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Sooners scored the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Nathan Han and Mark Mandlik defeated Washington's Ivan Sodan and Nedim Suko, 6-2. Alex Martinez and Kholo Montsi came away with a 6-3 win on court one against Dzianis Zharyn and Cesar Bouchelaghem to take the doubles point for the Sooners.

Martinez, Hasson, Montsi, Alvarez and Mandlik all took first set wins.

Mandlik completed his first set with a 6-1 win and claimed the first singles point for the Sooners after defeating Brett Pearson, 6-1, 6-3 on court six.

Hasson took the first set on court three, 6-1, and gained a 4-1 lead in the second set. Han-Chih Lin tied the second set at four games all before Hasson took the 6-1, 6-4 win to inch the Sooners closer to clinching the match.

No. 91 Martinez came away with a 6-4 win in the first set after claiming the deuce set point against Zharyn. He won the match, 6-4, 6-2, to send the Sooners to the championship match.

No. 125 Montsi won the first set on court four, 6-1 but went down 2-3 to start the second set. He then won the next three games to claim the second-set lead against Suko, 5-3 before play was stalled.

No. 89 Luis Alvarez won his first set 6-4 and gained a 3-0 lead after winning a break point against Sodan. He had a 6-4, 4-1 lead before play was stalled.

Schlageter dropped his first set against Bouchelaghem, 4-6 on court two and the second set was tied at four games all when the match concluded.

UP NEXT

The Sooners remain in Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the championship match against the winner of the match between Tennessee and USF on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
