Sooners head to Knoxville for ITA Kickoff Weekend

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team travels to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 27-28, marking the team's 13th consecutive appearance at the tournament.
The Sooners will face Washington on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT and will play either Tennessee or UCF on Sunday, Jan. 28. The time of the Sunday match has not been announced yet.
The winner of Sunday's championship match will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in New York, New York, Feb, 16-19.
PREVIOUS ACTION
The Sooners competed in a triple-header at home last weekend and completed back-to-back-to-back sweeps over Oral Roberts, UT Arlington and Illinois State.
OU dominated the doubles competition on Sunday, winning the point in both matches and only dropping six games.
Mark Mandlik won all three of his singles matches, only dropping a total of seven games over the course of the weekend.
Jordan Hasson was impressive in singles, taking significant leads in both matches and earning a win at the No.1 spot against ISU's Arvid Hjalte, 6-0, 6-3.
Freshmen Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki each had playing time in singles competition with Trondson taking a win over ISU's Caden Scarlett, 7-5, 6-2 on court six and Harazaki taking a lead on court six against UTA's Yazid Lahjomri before play was stalled.
No. 89 Luis Alvarez had a solid showing at singles with two wins on court four. He only dropped four games between the two matches.
2023 ITA KICKOFF WEEKEND
At last year's ITA Kickoff Weekend, the Sooners competed in the championship match after defeating Charlotte, 4-0. The Sooners came up just short of advancing, falling to host Tennessee, 4-3.Ā
