Men's Hoops Hosts Texas Tech on Saturday

NORMAN – No. 11/13 Oklahoma men's basketball hosts No. 20/21 Texas Tech on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Lloyd Noble Center. Tip is at 1:01 p.m. CT. The Big 12 conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN+ with Mark Neely (PxP) and King McClure (analyst) on the call.

•  University of Oklahoma students can attend all 2023-24 men's basketball games for free. Students need to show their ID at the lower north entrance at Lloyd Noble Center.  

•  Red Panda returns to Lloyd Noble Center to perform her legendary halftime act.

OPENING TIP

•  Oklahoma is ranked 35th (games through 1/24) overall and seventh in the Big 12 in the NET. Ten Big 12 teams are in the top 50. Texas Tech is 34th overall and sixth in the conference.

•  Senior Sam Godwin ranks fifth among NCAA DI active career leaders in field goal percentage, making 64.9% (240-370) of his shots. Junior Javian McCollum ranks seventh among active career leaders in free throw percentage (88.6%). In 70 career games, McCollum has made 179 free throws in 202 attempts.

•  OU earned its first road true road victory of the season on Saturday, Jan. 20, beating Cincinnati 69-65 at Fifth Third Arena. McCollum scored a team-high 16 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore Otega Oweh added 14 points and redshirt junior John Hugley scored 11 points.

•  OU improved to 15-3 overall with its win at Cincy, marking the first team to have 15 or more wins through their first 18 games since 2015-16. The 2015-16 squad posted a 16-2 mark.

LAST TIME OUT

•  Oklahoma dropped its first home contest on Tuesday, falling to Texas 75-60 at Lloyd Noble Center. Junior Jalon Moore led the Sooners with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Moore provided a much-needed spark for OU in the first half, slamming home a pair of thunderous dunks. 

•  The Sooners entered halftime up 33-32. Moore opened the second frame with a layup before Texas strung together a 10-0 run and led 47-39 with 16:23 remaining. Junior Javian McCollum stopped the scoring spurt with a 3-pointer. After Texas' Kadin Shedrick buried two free throws, Oklahoma scored six unanswered points and narrowed the UT advantage to 49-48.

•  Both programs traded layups before Texas pushed its lead back to two after Dylan Disu made one of his two free throw attempts. Moore evened the score at 52-all with 12:05 left. Texas found its offensive rhythm and pushed its lead to double digits over the next four minutes.

•  Oklahoma has appeared in the AP Poll 384 times (30.2%), ranking 22nd all-time. Since the 1984 season, the Sooners have appeared in 48.5% (364 times) of AP Polls and have an average rank of 12.1. OU has been ranked in the AP top 15 for seven consecutive weeks, marking the first time since the 2015-16 season. The 2015-16 Sooners were ranked in the AP top 10 all season.

•  Oklahoma ranks in the top 50 nationally in seven categories. The Sooners are 13th in three-point percentage defense (28.5%), 31st in scoring margin (12.7 PPG), 31st in rebound margin (6.4 RPG), 33rd in free throw percentage (76.1%) 39th in field goal percentage (48.1%), 42nd in scoring defense (65.6 PPG) and 44th in field goal percentage defense (40.3%). 

•  Sam Godwin is 38th in NCAA DI and first in the Big 12 in offensive rebounds per game (3.2 RPG). Otega Oweh is 64th nationally in field goal percentage (54.5%) and 87th in steals (34). Milos Uzan is 63rd in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6), 88th in assists (84) and 92nd in assists per game (4.4 APG).

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

•  Oklahoma holds a 75-26 record at Lloyd Noble Center since 2017. The Sooners have won 82.9% (608-126) of their games at LNC since the building opened in 1975. OU's winning percentage at Lloyd Noble Center is second in the Big 12 only to Kansas' 87.9% at Allen Fieldhouse (854-117).

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE

•  Oklahoma has the eighth toughest remaining schedule based on future opponent winning percentage. The Sooners' 12 remaining opponents have a combined 158-63 record (71.5%). The top nine teams are from the Big 12.
