Men's Hoops Continues Conference Play at Cincinnati

NORMAN – No. 15/16 Oklahoma men's basketball travels to Cincinnati for a Big 12 conference contest on Saturday, Jan. 20  at Fifth Third Arena. Tip is at 12:01 p.m. CT. The game will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network  (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN+ with Eric Rothman (PxP) and Tim Welsh (analyst) on the call.

OPENING TIP

•  Oklahoma is ranked 26th (games through 1/17) overall and sixth in the Big 12 in the NET. Nine Big 12 teams are in the top 40. Cincinnati is 29th overall and seventh in the conference.

•   Junior Javian McCollum ranks sixth among NCAA DI active career leaders in free throw percentage (88.7%). In 68 career games, McCollum has made 173 free throws in 195 attempts.

•  The Sooners earned their second Big 12 victory on Wednesday, Jan. 17, beating West Virginia 77-63 at Lloyd Noble Center. Junior Jalon Moore recorded a team-high 16 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore Otega Oweh notched his first career double-double, finishing with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

•  Against Kansas, Moore recorded a career-high 11 rebounds and redshirt freshman Luke Northweather scored a season-high six points on 2-for-3 shooting from deep.

LAST TIME OUT

•  Oklahoma beat West Virginia 77-63 on Wednesday, Jan. 17, improving to 11-0 in home contests this season and 2-2 in conference play. Junior Jalon Moore tallied a team-high 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting and added five rebounds. Sophomore Otega Oweh recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Junior Javian McCollum and senior Rivaldo Soares each tallied 13 points. 

•  Despite West Virginia holding a six-point advantage with 8:13 left in the first half, Oklahoma entered the break up 29-25. The Sooners opened the second frame with an Oweh dunk and pushed their lead to 34-25 with 17:38 remaining. The two programs traded buckets before a fadeaway jumper by redshirt junior John Hugley gave Oklahoma a 44-34 advantage. OU never let its lead dip below 10 for the final 13:20 of the contest. 

•  OU led for 29-plus minutes and shot 49.0% (25-51) from the field. The Sooners finished 22 for 30 at the free-throw line.

•  Oklahoma has appeared in the AP Poll 383 times (30.2%), ranking 22nd all-time. Since the 1984 season, the Sooners have appeared in 48.5% (363 times) of AP Polls and have an average rank of 12.1. OU has been ranked in the top 15 of the AP Poll for six consecutive weeks, marking the first time since a six-week stretch during the 2017-18 season.

Milos Uzan is 64th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5), 87th in assists per game (4.5) and 90th in assists (76)

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE

•  Oklahoma has the eighth toughest remaining schedule based on future opponent winning percentage. The Sooners' 14 remaining opponents have a combined 174-61 record (74.0%). Thirteen of the top 15 teams are from the Big 12.
