Men's Hoops Hosts West Virginia on Wednesday

NORMAN – No. 15/16 Oklahoma men's basketball returns to Lloyd Noble Center for a midweek contest against West Virginia on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Tip is at 7:01 p.m. CT inside LNC. The Big 12 conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network  (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN+ with Ted Emrich (PxP) and Tim Welsh (analyst) on the call.

FOR THE FANS

•  University of Oklahoma students can attend all 2023-24 men's basketball games for free. Students will need to show their ID at the lower north entrance at Lloyd Noble Center. 

•  Fans can purchase $2 concession specials (small popcorn, 12 oz beer or 16 oz soda) at Wednesday's game.

OPENING TIP

•  Oklahoma is ranked 23rd (games through 1/15) overall and sixth in the Big 12 in the NET. Nine Big 12 teams are in the top 50. West Virginia is 178th and 14th in the conference.

•  Junior Javian McCollum ranks 11th among NCAA DI active career leaders in free throw percentage (88.2%). In 67 career games, McCollum has made 165 free throws in 187 attempts.

•  Against Kansas, junior Jalon Moore recorded a career-high 11 rebounds and redshirt freshman Luke Northweather scored a season-high six points on 2-for-3 shooting from deep.

LAST TIME OUT

•  Oklahoma fell to No. 3/3 Kansas 78-66 in Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 13. Junior Javian McCollum finished with a team-high 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting and added four rebounds and three assists. Sophomores Milos Uzan and Otega Oweh tallied 15 and 12 points, respectively. Junior Jalon Moore grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and added five points. Redshirt freshman Luke Northweather scored a season-high six points on two 3-pointers.

•  Kansas raced out to a 12-4 advantage and extended its lead to 26-22 after a 3-pointer 7:42 left. Oweh responded with a 3-pointer and Moore slammed home a putback dunk, giving Oklahoma its first lead. After KU sank a pair of free throws to regain the advantage, OU scored four points on back-to-back layups by Oweh and Uzan, putting the Sooners up 31-28 with 4:32 left in the first half. Both programs traded baskets to close the first frame and Kansas entered the break up 38-37. The Sooners briefly recaptured the lead to start the second half before a 6-0 Kansas run. KU never relinquished its lead after the scoring spurt.

AP POLL APPEARANCES

•  Oklahoma has appeared in the AP Poll 383 times (30.2%), ranking 22nd all-time. Since the 1984 season, the Sooners have appeared in 48.5% (363 times) of AP Polls and have an average rank of 12.1. OU has been ranked in the top 15 of the AP Poll for six consecutive weeks, marking the first time since a six-week stretch during the 2017-18 season. 

RANKING SUMMARY (1/16)

•  Oklahoma ranks in the top 50 nationally in eight categories. The Sooners are 10th in three-point percentage defense (27.6%), 20th in scoring margin (14.9 PPG), 24th in effective field goal percentage (55.7%), 25th in field goal percentage (48.9%), 27th in rebound margin (7.3 RPG), 32nd in field goal percentage defense (39.6%), 34th in free throw percentage (75.9%) and 41st in scoring defense (65.2 PPG). 

•  Sam Godwin is 17th in NCAA DI and first in the Big 12 in offensive rebounds per game (3.6 RPG). Otega Oweh is 43rd nationally and third in the conference in field goal percentage (58.3%). Milos Uzan is 62nd in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5) and 89th in assists per game (4.4).

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

•  Oklahoma holds a 74-25 record at Lloyd Noble Center since 2017. The Sooners have won 82.9% (607-125) of their games at LNC since the building opened in 1975. OU's winning percentage at Lloyd Noble Center is second in the Big 12 only to Kansas' 87.9% at Allen Fieldhouse (852-117).

DISHING OUT DIMES

•  Against Monmouth, junior Javian McCollum and sophomore Milos Uzan became the first duo to each record eight or more assists in the same game since the start of the 1996-97 season. McCollum and Uzan combined for 16 assists and three turnovers in the 72-56 regular season non-conference finale.

•  Uzan dished out 10 assists against TCU and added 13 points and seven rebounds, joining Trae Young (27 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds vs. OSU | Jan. 3, 2018) as the only two Sooners since the start of the 1996-97 to reach those totals.
