NORMAN –
Emma Hawkins made program history with her second career hat trick, and
Leonie Weber scored a pair of goals as Oklahoma routed Murray State, 5-1, at John Crain Field on Thursday night.
Hawkins scored three unanswered goals over 25 minutes to notch her second hat trick of the year, becoming the first Sooner ever to tally multiple hat tricks in their career. The win moved Oklahoma's (4-3-0) win streak at home to four games, its longest stretch since 2015.
"It was a really complete game for us," first-year head coach Matt Mott said. "We got a couple of early goals and Emma (Hawkins) was brilliant, Dani (Wolfe) was really tough and I thought we were really strong defensively in the second half."
The Sooners got off to a fast start vs. Murray State (2-5-0) as
Leonie Weber slotted her first shot of the night into a wide-open net in the sixth minute.
Alexis Washington collected the ball in the box, spun past her defender, and fed it to an unmarked Weber, who made it 1-0.
The Racers answered with their only goal of the night 71 seconds later when Sydney Etter beat OU keeper
Sierra Giorgio to equalize.
The teams traded attacks without a result for the next 20 minutes until Hawkins made her presence felt. A crossed ball in from
Hadley Murrell found Hawkins' head as the redshirt senior buried the header into the back of the net to give OU an advantage it wouldn't surrender. The Forney, Texas, product tallied her second goal of the night, and seventh of the season, 13 minutes later in the 40th minute when she played a through ball past the Murray State backline, beat the goalkeeper and pushed it across the line to give OU a 3-1 lead. Her final, historical goal came in the 50th minute when Murrell sent another lifted cross into the box that found a soaring Hawkins, who made it 4-1 Oklahoma and secured a school-record second hat trick of her career.
Weber registered a brace in the 52nd minute when she scored off a
Michelle Pak assist to give the Sooners a 5-1 lead.
Oklahoma goalkeeper
Sierra Giorgio was credited with the win after tallying two saves and allowing just one goal.
Powered by her three goals, Hawkins' six points on the night were second-most in program history, trailing only her own school record of seven points set vs. Tulsa earlier this season. Her eight goals through just seven games are already tied for the eighth most in a single season at Oklahoma.
Murrell's two assists that led to Hawkins' goals were a career-high for the sophomore from Prosper, Texas.
The Sooners have the weekend off before opening Big 12 play on Thursday, Sept. 14 vs. Kansas in Norman. The match is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
