Soccer Hosts Kansas Thursday, at Omaha on Sunday

NORMAN — Oklahoma soccer returns to the pitch this week for a pair of contests. The Sooners host Kansas at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the team's conference opener before traveling to Omaha for a 1 p.m. showdown on Sunday. 

On Thursday, the Sooners (4-3-0) will seek their fifth consecutive home victory, which would be tied for the second-longest home winning streak in program history. OU is undefeated (4-0-0) this season at home and outscoring opponents 23-4 at John Crain Field. 

Sunday's contest at Omaha will see OU attempt to win its first road game in nearly a year as Oklahoma's last win in a true road game was at Baylor on Sept. 23, 2022.

Thursday's match will start at 7 p.m. and fans are encouraged to arrive early. Gates open one hour prior to first touch, and a clear-bag policy will be in order. For more information please visit our event website

The contest marks OU Soccer's Greek Nite Challenge, where $500 will be donated to whichever OU Greek chapter has the most members in attendance. In addition, all fans can bring non-perishable goods to be entered into raffles for prizes like AirPods, a Nintendo Switch, SoonerShop merchandise, a Yeti cooler and more. 

Additionally, fans can purchase hot dogs and soda for just $2 (tax not included).

Oklahoma's match vs. Kansas will be streamed on ESPN+, and OU's game at Omaha will be broadcast on the Summit League Network behind a paywall. 

SEASON STORYLINES

Offensive Explosion: Oklahoma is putting together one of the top seasons offensively in program history. OU ranks inside the top 15 nationally in in goals/game (3.29, 10th), assists/game (3.14/9th), PPG (9.71/9th) and SOG/game (11/5th). OU's 3.29 goals per game would shatter the school record of 2.43 (2008), and the Sooners are on pace for 59 goals, which would be 22 more than the 2010 and 2005 record of 37. Emma Hawkins has two hat tricks on the year (vs. Tulsa and Murray State), becoming the first Sooner with multiple hat tricks.

Home Sweet Home: It's been a tale of two locations for the Sooners in 2023 as OU is undefeated (4-0) at home and outscoring opponents 23-4, but is 0-3 away from John Crain Field and has been outscored 8-0. The Sooners' four-game winning streak at home is the longest in 14 seasons, when the 2009 Sooners won five straight in Norman to open the season. The program record for consecutive home wins is eight, set in 2005. 

Last Trip 'Round the Neighborhood: The 2023 Big 12 slate is Oklahoma soccer's last in the conference as the Sooners move into the Southeastern Conference next season. The Sooners have produced 39 All-Big 12 honorees as members of the league and accumulated 73 wins.

Following OU's pair of matches this week, the Sooners return to Norman for a Thursday night showdown with Kansas State on Sept. 21, followed by at trip to Houston on Sept. 24.
