NORMAN — Oklahoma opened the season with a bang Thursday night at John Crain Field, beating Tulsa 6-0 behind a hat trick from Emma Hawkins.
The senior forward set a program record with seven points behind her three goals and one assist and tied the program record with three goals, only accomplished four times prior. Oklahoma's six goals were the most in a match since Aug. 24, 2018 vs. Illinois State (7-1 win).
"Great performance, right? Really happy with the team," said first-year head coach Matt Mott. "We've been working on a lot of defending and certainly happy to get a clean sheet tonight.
"Overall, the team played really well against a good Tulsa team. They came in here and fought us early on. When we got that first goal it was huge for us, then as the game went on I think we grew more into the game and realized what we were trying to do and were pretty dangerous all night."
The Mott era started fast with a goal from Hawkins in the 18th minute off the assist from Alexis Washington, the first of two assists on the evening for the sophomore who set a single season program record with nine assists a season ago.
Hawkins quickly tallied her second goal of the game a minute later in the 19th off another assist from Washington.
The Sooners continued on the attack with a goal in the 32nd minute from redshirt sophomore Muriel Kroflin off a double-assist from Morganne Eikelbarner and Keller Matise. The goal was the first of Kroflin's three-year career as a Sooner.
After the break, OU continued to apply the pressure with a goal in the 46th minute from junior Leonie Weber. The goal came off another double assist from Hawkins and fellow redshirt senior Dani Wolfe, her first point as a Sooner after transferring from Michigan for her final year of collegiate soccer.
In the 51st minute Hawkins made program history with her third goal and seventh point of the match. The super senior was assisted from Wolfe and sophomore Hadley Murrell.
Morganne Eikelbarner closed the match's scoring with OU's sixth goal of the night in the 86th minute. The fourth goal of the sophomore's career was unassisted after the ball bounced around in the box before Eikelbarner found the back right of the net with her right foot.
In goal, Oklahoma's pair of goalkeepers Olivia Ramey and Sierra Giorgio registered a clean sheet with a combined four saves (two each). The home shutout was the first since Oct. 2021 vs. Baylor.
The Sooners return to the pitch Sunday at home vs. Oral Roberts. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. CT first touch and can be seen via SoonerVision on ESPN+. Tickets are still available via SoonerSports.com/tickets.
