Anthony Mackenzie and
Jackson Nicklaus each drove in two runs and
James Hitt was very good over 5.2 innings to lead the Oklahoma baseball team to a 6-3 win over Baylor Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.
The Sooners (17-15, 3-5 Big 12) drew a season-high 14 walks one night after drawing none, and scored four of their runs on walks with the bases loaded. Nicklaus finished with three walks, two of which plated runs, and Mackenzie notched singled twice, including a two-run laser into center field in the seventh inning.
OU scored one run in the fifth inning, two in the sixth and three runs in the seventh. The Bears (11-20, 3-8 Big 12) plated single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Hitt (2-0) struck out three and allowed one run on two hits.
Kale Davis pitched 1.2 relief innings, striking out two.
Aaron Weber entered with two runners on in the eighth and closed out the game with four strikeouts in his 1.2 frames to pick up his sixth save of the season. Baylor starter Mason Marriott (1-5) wen 4.2 innings and took the loss.
The bottom third of the Oklahoma batting order accounted for four of the team's eight hits, drew four walks and scored all six runs.
Wallace Clark and
Diego Muniz each singled, walked twice and scored two runs, while
Kendall Pettis singled twice and scored twice.
Oklahoma got on the board in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk by Spikerman and added two more runs in the sixth on walks by Madron and Nicklaus. The Sooners plated three runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-1. Mackenzie lined a two-run single into center field with the bases loaded and Nicklaus drew another bases-loaded walk.
Baylor plated a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Kolby Branch. John Ceccoli scored in the seventh on a wild pitch and Cole Posey singled in a run in the ninth.
The Sooners and Bears will play a rubber game for the series at 2 p.m. Saturday.
